Update: Lalagin Secondary School Swahili teacher, Martina Chepkemoi Ruto, has reportedly been found dead in Kericho.

According to her family, she was found in a stream with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

I am sharing this with a very heavy heart.

This is Tolong ECDE Centre, located in Chesongoch, Endoo Ward, Marakwet East Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Just look at the condition of these school structures. They are extremely risky, dangerous, and not fit to host learners at all.

The classrooms are dilapidated, the iron sheets are rusted and hanging, the structures are weak and can collapse at any moment. Our young children, our innocent ECDE learners, are forced to study in fear inside these death traps.

We must ask the hard questions, What will happen if strong winds blow?

What will happen if we experience heavy rains, which are common in this area?

Who will take responsibility if this structure collapses on our children?

WE MUST ACT BEFORE TRAGEDY STRIKES.

We cannot and we must not gamble with the lives of our children. Education should be a place of hope and safety, not a place of fear and danger.

Therefore, I am making a passionate appeal to those responsible:

1. The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, Department of Education and ECDE.

2. The Leadership of Endoo Ward.

3. The Leadership of Marakwet East Constituency.

4. And all well-wishers and stakeholders in education.

Please urgently intervene and ensure that our learners at Tolong ECDE have safe, secure, and dignified classrooms. Our children deserve better. They deserve a conducive learning environment like any other child in Kenya.

Let us fix Tolong ECDE before it is too late. Let us not wait to react after a tragedy. Let us act now.

Our children are our future. Let us protect them.

A FATHER AND HIS FOUR SONS: THE MOI FAMILY STORY

The late former President Daniel Arap Moi had four sons: Jonathan Toroitich, Raymond Moi, John Mark, and Gideon Moi.

Unlike other political families, two of his sons - Major (Rtd) John Mark and the late Jonathan Kipkemboi decided to live their own lives away from the shadow of their powerful father.

After Moi and his wife Lena Moi divorced, the family split. Jonathan became very close to his mother and built his home right next to hers in Kabimoi, Baringo, while all the other sons remained close to their father in Nakuru and Kabarak.

In his biography, "The Making of an African Statesman" written by Andrew Morton, Moi revealed a painful truth that as President, he drew little happiness from his family life.

Moi confessed that only his youngest son Gideon, his adopted daughter June Moi, and a niece to his estranged wife Lena ever appeared in public to give him moral support.

The rest lived their own private lives, a situation Moi admitted frustrated him at times.

A powerful reminder that even State House had its own lonely moments.
