Hello and welcome to MIKE'S INTERNATIONAL SOCCER SCHOOL, which was established in April, 2011. The soccer coach is a native speaker, and coaches the kids in English. In our program we would like both foreign and Japanese children to improve their SOCCER SKILLS and their COMMUNICATION SKILLS through the fun of the game. We encourage them to be able to engage people internationally through playing s

ports in Japan. The 3 main points:
01, The coach is a native English speaker! TRAP! DRIBBLE! KICK THAT BALL! The basic skills are demonstrated and taught to you by the foreign coach!

02, Practice with Japanese, foreign and international kids! While practicing soccer, get your best chance for international communication!

03, "Put your best foot forward!"
Starting from a young age, be able to have fun with soccer, meet and greet foreign friends, and motivate yourself to rise to your personal best level. The lessons are designed to be SUPER FUN! Children can enjoy training themselves not only physically but also technically in our program. We invite you to do so at our program! WHO: Boys and girls, ages 2 to 9 years old. WHEN: Every Saturday and Sunday

Hello everyone!

Today’s lesson began with our usual warm-up and then we moved onto an agility drill where students would race each other by running around a cone and then shoot a goal. The students used the phrase “Go around the cone” to help them both understand the rule of the game and give them an opportunity to practice their English.

Afterwards we played a short soccer match where the students were all on one team and the teachers and parents were on the other. At halftime, we completed our English lesson and then came back to the game where we played the second half.

Thankful everyone for coming out today, and thank you to the parents who joined in on the fun in spite of the heat! Stay cool, and we will see you all next time!

Hello there, everyone!

Today we warmed up as always with the phonemes, spelling bee, and asking students "How's the weather?" Our first game of the day was a passing drill where students were split into two teams and pass a soccer ball down the line. The last student was told to "Stop" the ball and then try to find an animal vocab card that was set face down on the field. The first team to complete the passing drill and find the vocab card was deemed the winner. In this game, students learned animal vocab such as cat, monkey, dog, etc.

Students then played a short soccer match with each other before spending time practicing their English lesson. We spent extra time on the lesson today in an effort to get a few students ready for their English presentation at Mike's English School while also spending extra time introducing other students to their new level.

Hello, everyone!

We went back to Ichinomiya Park this week and warmed up per usual with English phonemes, the spelling bee, and asking students "How's the weather?"

Our first game today was a race, and students used English phrases to help understand the rules. They were asked to race down the field and grab "Only one" toy animal and then bring it back. In another round, students had dribble their soccer ball and "Stop it" at the finish line.

After a quick water break students played a quick soccer match and then focused on their English lesson for a bit. For the Listening Game today, we asked students "What animal do you like?" to which they responded with "I like dinosaurs" or "I like zebras" so "I like" was the key phrase they learned today, so students can say "I like this, I like that."

Hello everyone!

The rainy season is here and because of the weather, Mike's Soccer was held inside the school today. We began the lesson by singing songs for the younger students, taking attendance, and going through June's phoenemes and spelling bee.

We jumped right into the English lesson today. Halfway through, we took a short break to play a game of Simon Says before coming back to finish the lesson.

After the lesson students did an activity where they try to find hidden images inside of a picture. Once they found a hidden image they used the phrase "I found it!" Then we moved on to a different game using a balloon. We used the phrase "No hands" to teach the rule of this game: One student kept the balloon airborne without using their hands, and the other students would count the number of touches each player had.

Hello, everyone!

Today's lesson began with students warming up with the phonemes for June ('Th'ree, 'Ch'opsticks, 'Sh'ip) and practicing the monthly spelling bee (How do you spell 'bee'? How do you spell 'desk'?).

Students then played a round of Soccer Tag. Here, teachers asked students "What's the goal?" and players, depending on what team they were on, would say "Don't get tagged" or "Tag them!"

We then played a short soccer match and then spent time focusing on an English lesson. Today's theme for the Listening Game was asking students what kind of soccer player they want to be, or rather what their goals are in soccer. Teachers asked "What do you want to be?" and students answered with new words they were taught, saying things like "Be faster," "Be better," or "Be stronger."

That was our lesson for the day! Thank-you for coming and we're looking forward to seeing you all again next week!

Hello, everyone!

In today's lesson, we warmed up with the phonemes and spelling bee and asked students "How's the weather?" and placed an extra emphasis on the word "windy," a new word they can use to describe the weather.

Our first activity of the day was a relay, where students found a partner and would race down the pitch, go around a cone and then back, passing the ball to a teammate who would do the same. Players used the phrase "Who's the fastest?" at the end of each round to see which team was the quickest.

Students then played a short soccer match and used English phrases throughout the game, phrases they can use to learn the rules of soccer, such as "No hands" and, when the ball is out of bounds, "Whose ball is it?"

Once the match finished, students had an English lesson before playing the Listening Game. Today's theme was Summer, and we used vocab for things Summer-related, such as ice cream, festivals, fireworks, and cicadas.

It was another great day for Mike's Soccer, and the coaches were thrilled to see the students do so well! We'll see you all again next week!

Hello there, everyone!

We warmed up today per usual using May's phonemes (b'i'g, 'l'ion, 'r'abbit) and spelling bee (bag, cake) and practiced the weather. We kicked off the lesson with a dribbling game. Students would dribble the ball anywhere and then stop it using either their head, hand, foot, or by sitting on it. "Use your hand!" or "Use your head!" were phrases students used after stopping the ball, and "use" was the keyword.

Students also played a short soccer match and rules were gently enforced to help younger players become more familiar with the rules of the game. The English lesson came after that and we ended today's practice with the Listening Game. Students were asked what sports they like using the phrase "What do you like?" and they answered with "I like golf" or "I like basketball."

Hello everyone!

We started off warming up with the new phonemes for April (Goat, Blue, Australia) and practiced the spelling bee (Ant, Ball) before going into our first game: Easter Egg Hunting! Plastic eggs were hidded around Ichinomiya Park and students searched for this eggs, using the phrase "I found one!" when he/she came across an Easter egg.

After all the eggs were found students played a short soccer match with each other before focusing on their English lesson as one group. For the Listening Game, we used Easter vocabulary, and students practiced pronouncing and listening to words like "Easter" and "Jellybean".

Hello everyone, and Happy Sunday!

After our weekly warm up, students ran an obstacle this week where they practiced dribbling, passing to teammates, and shooting goals. Before starting the course, students practiced speaking the words, saying "Run" and "Shoot" and "Pass", using English to describe the actions they were performing.

After each student had a few tries with the obstacle course we separated the students into two groups, Elementary and preschool. Elementary students practiced their English while preschool students played a short match. When the older students finished their lesson, the two groups swapped places and preschoolers practiced their English while older students played a soccer game.

In the Listening Game students were speaking English as much as they were listening to it. This week's phrase was "What can you play?" Then, students would answer with things they can play. For example, "I can play baseball" or "I can play shogi." Throughout the Listening Game, students would repeat the question "What can you play?"

Hello, everyone, and Happy Sunday!

For today's lesson, students ran an obstacle course and in it, practiced dribbling between cones and shooting goals. While we did this game, Coach used the phrase "Follow me" and students would then repeat it and copy the teacher.

After each student had a chance to run the obstacle course several times we moved onto the textbook lesson. Elementary students were first to practice textbook questions while the preschool students played a soccer match together. Once the elementary students finished their lesson, the two groups switched and Elementary students played soccer while our younger students had an English lesson.

We finished the lesson with the Listening Game. This time, we asked students "What can you do?" and they would repeat this phrase (Because our students are so great we know they can do many things!). Teacher would then say "I can swim" and again the students would repeat. So for today's vocabulary, simple activities or actions were used, such as "I can jump" or "I can swim".

Hello everyone, and good day to you!

Today's lesson began with a short game that allowed students to practice ball control as well as their listening skills. Coach would tell students to put their foot on the ball, then switch, alternating between right and left feet, and also picking up and sitting on the ball. After this short warm-up, we took attendance and did March's phonemes and spelling bee (Monkey, Nest, Fish for the phonemes and Pen, Leaf, and Tree for the spelling bee).

After finishing the warm up we played a game of "Sting the Coaches". Players would act as bees and try to sting the coaches by tagging them with a soccer ball. Players would try to tag two coaches as fast as possible, and after tagging both coaches, they used the phrase "What's my time?" to see how long it took them as a team to complete their objective.

Later on we split into two groups, younger students and older students. Teachers helped older students with their English lesson while the younger students played a soccer match. Aftter elementary students finished their lesson, the two groups switched and preschoolers are the ones who focused on their English lesson while the older students played a soccer match.

The lesson concluded with The Listening Game, and we used animals for today's vocabulary. Crab, dinosaur, lion, tiger, and hippo were the words we used today, and, as usual, students practiced speaking these words worked on pronunciation before we started the listening game.
