Last day in Japan! We’re so lucky to be able to visit Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka this summer. Building family memories is one of the top goals in our journey. Can’t wait to share how we did it and why this is a great time to travel to Japan!

I also thought that it’s too late to save and build a strong financial future with a teacher’s salary.

But the important thing is for you and me is to start. Start now. Start making a plan. Do it for your future self.

For me it is being financially ignorant as there was too much jargon and complicated concepts outside of my teaching.

What is holding you back?

Creating, and updating your budget is something many people avoid. It’s simple really. But it’s hard. Psychologically. Still to this day I force myself to look and update it.

Anyone else have an aversion to budgeting?

Have an Emergency Fund of 3-6 month is good. 12-18 months really good. But start off with building $1K. It gives you a bit more piece of mind when you need it for quick car/home repairs. And when you build for a year or more, it’ll be there for you if you lose your job or get sick or take care of loved ones. Keep building your emergency fund!

When you buy a big purchase, you’ll find out fast the hidden costs to them.

One of the most overlooked thing in buying a house is the actual size we need to raise a young family. It’s nice to have a lot of room, but honestly, there are two rooms I’ve only been in less the a few dozen times. Sigh. But what can we do? At this point, nothing. We just have to make the best of it. But if you are looking to buy a house, really look into how big you need it to be.
