New Beginning International Preschool

New Beginning International Preschool キリスト教の愛の精神に基づいた、豊かな愛情の中で、人格を尊重した教育。 Curriculum Overview
NB curriculum covers a three-year cycle. Both plants, animals, and insects are discussed.

Each year, vocabulary and math objectives are met within the context of a larger theme. Unlike kindergartens in an English speaking environment, the goal is not English reading proficiency at the end of the three-year period, but English conversational ability. For this reason, alphabet recognition, pronunciation, and vocabulary recognition are emphasised. (Although reading English is not a focus,

some graduates naturally are able to read kindergarten level English books upon graduation.) Since the students are all non-English speakers, an effort is made to incorporate the five senses into each unit. This approach has been successful in imprinting a large amount of concrete vocabulary into an everyday, practical context. Year 1 –God made Me: This year’s focus is on the parts of the body, including internal organs. How to have strong bones, the function of the lungs, heart, brain etc are discussed. Year 2-God made living things: This year’s focus is on life cycles. Students are exposed to farming, harvesting, and cooking with what they have harvested. Year 3-God made the world: In this year, students will study the solar system. As they study the planet earth, they will get to “travel” around the world visiting various countries. Cultures, indigenous animals, and climates of these countries are discussed. Each of these themes are integrated to meet Kindergarten objectives of K3-5 while maintaining a distinct Christian perspective.

This past week we learned about three landmarks in Europe: Brandenburg Gate, Colosseum, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Here are some short excerpts from our lessons. Some of our friends had fun recreating the land marks during free time.

This week we are "visiting" Australia. We learned about the biomes in the country as well as some of the animals. We have been playing with Australian animal plushies all week as well as the animals which Ms Rachel used to teach the biome lessons.

We are visiting Egypt this week and learned how they used to make mummies. The pyramids were tombs for the pharoahs. We are also playing in a pyramid in the classroom and dressing up as pharoahs and princesses.

Using Our Five Senses to Learn

Curriculum Overview NB curriculum covers a three-year cycle. Each year, vocabulary and math objectives are met within the context of a larger theme. Alphabet recognition, pronunciation, and vocabulary recognition are emphasised along with simple math concepts. Each theme incorporated as many of the five senses as possible to make the learning concrete. This approach has been successful in imprinting a large amount of vocabulary into an everyday, practical context. Year 1 –God made Me: This year’s focus is on the parts of the body, including internal organs. How to have strong bones, the function of the lungs, heart, brain etc are discussed. Year 2-God made living things: This year’s focus is on life cycles. Both plants, animals, and insects are discussed. Students are exposed to farming, harvesting, and cooking with what they have harvested. Year 3-God made the world: In this year, students will study the earth’s continents, oceans and landforms as well as the solar system. Students will “travel” around the world visiting various countries as they learn about various cultures, indigenous animals and plants, and the climates of these countries. Each of these themes are integrated to meet Kindergarten objectives of K3-5 while maintaining a distinct Christian perspective.
