Omotesando Toastmasters Club – Meeting Report

March 10 | Tokyo Women’s Plaza

On March 10, Omotesando Toastmasters Club held an engaging meeting at Tokyo Women’s Plaza. The meeting welcomed three wonderful guests, adding fresh perspectives and lively participation throughout the evening.

The Word of the Evening was “Awe,” which inspired members and guests to reflect on moments that moved, surprised, or inspired them.

Prepared Speeches

The meeting featured two interesting prepared speeches.

Speaker 1 explored how something unexpected can become viral on the internet. The speech described a photo that spread widely online—not because it was beautiful, but because people criticized it and mocked it. The speaker reflected on how quickly online communities react and how digital culture can amplify both positive and negative attention.

Speaker 2 shared a warm and personal story about home gardening, a hobby that began during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a simple activity gradually grew into a meaningful passion. The speaker described growing vegetables and even welcoming fellow Toastmasters members to visit the garden, demonstrating how hobbies can strengthen friendships and community.

Table Topics Session

The Table Topics session encouraged participants to reflect on moments that inspire awe or leave lasting impressions.

One response highlighted the excitement surrounding the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics, particularly a love for figure skating and admiration for the dedication of athletes.

A guest who joined from Kawasaki, originally from Canada, shared a meaningful moment about receiving seeds from the speaker’s garden and growing vegetables at home—showing how simple acts of sharing can create connections.

Another memorable story described a beauty contest initiative designed to strengthen friendship between India and Japan, highlighting how cultural exchange and positive stories can inspire communities.

Other creative questions included:
• If you were a farmer, what vegetable would you grow? (One answer: zucchini.)
• What do you hope to experience in the future? (Watching sports like baseball or basketball while enjoying the atmosphere of a lively bar.)
• What childhood moment moved you the most?

Reflection

The meeting reminded us that moments of awe can come from many places—sports, nature, personal stories, and human connection. With inspiring speeches, thoughtful Table Topics, and the participation of our guests, it was another memorable evening for the Omotesando Toastmasters community.

We look forward to welcoming everyone again at our future meetings.

🌿 Omotesando Toastmasters Club – Meeting Report
Theme: Cozy

We enjoyed another warm and engaging meeting filled with storytelling and supportive feedback.

🎤 Our first speaker shared a memorable story about their adventurous dog who swallowed a toy during a pet store visit — leading to a stressful rush to the vet and a surprising discovery of several unexpected “souvenirs” in the dog’s stomach! A humorous yet emotional reminder of how much our pets mean to us.

🏆 Our second speaker delivered a contest practice speech followed by a valuable group evaluation session. Good luck in the upcoming contest!

💬 Table Topics invited reflections on graduation memories, life departures, personal turning points, cherry blossoms, and expectations for spring.

📘 Grammarian highlighted vivid expressions and strong emotional language, while the Ah-Counter reported very low filler word usage — great speaking discipline by everyone!

Toastmasters Meeting Report

The meeting was opened by TM S, who served as Toastmaster of the Day. TM S set a positive and reflective tone by reminding everyone that this year is the Year of the Horse, symbolizing energy, resilience, and forward movement. The Word of the Evening, “crystal clear,” was introduced by TM Y and encouraged members to communicate with clarity and intention throughout the meeting. TM T fulfilled the role of Timer, helping the meeting proceed smoothly and on schedule.

The prepared speech was delivered by TM Y, who shared a reflective account of a challenging period marked by overlapping professional and personal pressures. While details were shared thoughtfully and with restraint, the speech focused on how sustained stress can gradually affect daily habits and overall well-being. Through this experience, TM Y came to recognize that health is the foundation upon which everything else rests. The speech described a gradual process of reflection, adjustment, and recovery, leading to a renewed sense of balance. At one point, TM Y acknowledged experiencing self-doubt and questioning whether it might be time to step away, but being reminded of long-standing interests—particularly English, public speaking, and Toastmasters—helped reaffirm a strong sense of identity. The message concluded with the powerful statement, “I continue Toastmasters simply because I am a Toastmaster,” which resonated deeply with the audience and highlighted themes of resilience, rediscovery, and purpose.

The Table Topics session explored the question, “What is your New Year’s resolution?” Members shared personal and thoughtful reflections, ranging from learning to play the guitar and prioritizing health, to reducing alcohol consumption, working toward becoming an independent tour guide, renting a personal vegetable field, and exploring deeper and more meaningful ways to use AI. These responses added warmth and connection to the meeting.

Overall, the meeting emphasized the importance of clarity, health, and perseverance, and once again demonstrated how Toastmasters provides a supportive environment for reflection and growth, particularly through face-to-face meetings that strengthen personal connections.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held on 26 January at Women’s Plaza. Full details are available on Meetup at the link below:

We held another successful meeting at Omotesando Toastmasters Club on December 8th, welcoming two guests—including a visiting Toastmaster from Canada.

Our first-time Table Topics Master, TM M, delivered an excellent session. We also enjoyed two inspiring speeches, two engaging evaluations, and valuable support from our two new club coaches.

📅 Our next meeting will be on December 22 and will be held online.
We hope to see you there!
