Having CQ Knowledge (the "V" in voices) is understanding how cultures vary in terms of values, behaviors, traditions, and norms. It includes the ability to recognize how and why people’s ways of expressing voice may differ across cultural contexts.

This doesn’t mean one is “more free” or “more evolved.” It means recognizing that freedom, safety, and expression don’t look the same everywhere...and must be understood within context.

We're on a program in Japan and met with one of our friends (whose name we will protect with care). And his presence reminded us that in many cultures, including parts of Latin America and East Asia, voice is expressed NOT through confrontation...but through patience, silence, and chosen moments.
To understand Voice, we must notice:
• who is given voice?
• who is withholding voice?
• who is risking voice?

You see, voice doesn't always sound like volume. In Japan, silence is communication.

At TWL, the Voice in "lifting others' voices every day"®️, means...

..making space for expressions of self that don't always match our own.

Your job isn't to make someone louder. It's to become a better listener.

Through Teach With Love, I gained an authentic perspective on Japanese culture and traditions beyond that of any social media post. And I say this because everything was intentional. It all fell under the LOVE framework, which stands for lifting others voices every day®️. And this experience was something that I was really grateful for as an Asian American, as a Filipina American, our cultures are not always appreciated, but rather it is appropriated for monetary gains or for social media. So it was refreshing to see fellow educators respect Asian culture. It was really an experience of unlearning and learning at the same time. I know that I've gained a new community and a new support system, and I probably would have never met them if it weren't for Teach with love.
