🌐On Thursday, December 5, we had the privilege of hosting Johnathan McCaskill and Peter Morris for a panel discussion on the application of international criminal and humanitarian law in the context of the Yugoslav Wars and the conflict in Myanmar. Johnathan and Peter, both from Temple University Japan, provided invaluable insights into the evolution of international humanitarian law and the challenges faced in mass atrocity investigations.
In the discussion of the Yugoslav Wars, particularly in Bosnia, Johnathan examined the deeply personal and brutal nature of the conflict, where ethnic and nationalistic tensions escalated to the point where former colleagues, classmates, and neighbors turned violently against one another.
The panel then turned to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, exploring the political history that led to the current crisis, the controversial leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi, and how external influences has further complicated the international response to the crisis.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Johnathan McCaskill and Peter Morris for their expertise and thought-provoking contributions, which provided participants with a deeper understanding of how global dynamics, technological advancements, and resource politics shape the prosecution of war crimes in modern times.

🌐先週の木曜日、12月5日にジョナサン・マークキャスキル氏とピーター・モリス氏を迎え、ユーゴスラビアやミャンマーの紛争における国際犯罪法および国際人道法の適用についてパネルディスカッションを開催しました。テンプル大学の教授である両氏は、国際人道法の変遷や大量虐殺行為の調査における課題について貴重な見識を共有してくださりました。
ユーゴスラビア紛争、特にボスニアについてのディスカッションでは、民族的・国家主義的緊張が高まる中でのきわめて個人的で残酷な紛争の性質について、ジョナサン氏による深い考察が紹介されました。
また現在進行しているミャンマーにおける紛争についてのパネルディスカッションでは、現在の危機につながる政治の歴史、議論の的となっているアウンサンスーチー氏のリーダーシップ、そしてどのように外的要因がこの危機に対する国際的な対応を複雑化させているかが紹介されました。
今回のパネルディスカッションを通して、参加者はどのようにしてグローバルダイナミクスや技術革新、資源をめぐる政治が現代の戦争犯罪につながるか、より深く理解することができました。専門的かつ示唆に富む見解をお話してくださったジョナサン・マークキャスキル氏とピーター・モリス氏に深く御礼申し上げます。
