Nitobe College is an interdisciplinary educational program designed for graduate students to develop skills for embracing their expertise.

The program is open to students enrolled in master's or professional degree programs at Hokkaido University.

The Hult Prize Hokkaido University Organising Committee is recruiting new members. 
The Hult Prize is one of the world’s largest student startup competitions. Teams build business ideas that solve social problems and pitch them in English. We plan and run the Hokkaido University campus round. 
Past Hokudai teams have gone on to found real startups. Our committee was named Best Organising Committee in the Asia-Pacific region and was honoured at the Global Hult Prize Summit in London. 
What you’ll do: External relations, working with entrepreneurs, judges and mentors Public relations, running social media and promotional design Event planning and operations, from scheduling to supporting teams on the day 
What you’ll gain: A network of entrepreneurs, professionals and ambitious Hokudai students Practical experience in running a large project from scratch An international environment where English is used every day 
No business background or fluent English required. We want people who are motivated, reliable and ready to build something together.

ハルトプライズは、学生がチームで社会課題を解決するビジネスアイデアを英語でプレゼンし競い合う、世界最大級のコンテストです。私たちはその北大学内予選の企画・運営を担っています。 
過去の北大大会からは、実際に起業したチームも生まれました。実行委員会自体もアジアパシフィック地域で最優秀に選ばれ、ロンドンでの世界サミットで表彰されています。

🔍 What kind of campus should this university become? 
Nobody has the answer yet. That is why we gave the question to our students. 
💡 In Week 8 of Global Advanced Course II (part of the Nitobe College Honors Program), four teams presented a term of research. They asked staff, students, and visitors what they want this campus to be, then built what they heard into pictures of the future. 
🌐 Many organisations say they want to be sustainable. Few ask the people inside them what that should look like.  
🤝 After this session, students can gather real data from their own community, find the belief hidden under a problem, and describe a future clearly enough for other people to argue with it.

🔍 このキャンパスは、これからどんな場所になるべきか。 
答えはまだ誰も持っていません。だからこそ、この問いを学生に手渡しました。

💡 新渡戸カレッジオナーズプログラムのグローバル発展科目Ⅱ（課題発見の基礎と実践）第8週、4チームがタームを通じた調査の成果を発表しました。教職員、学生、そしてキャンパスを訪れる人たちに「どんなキャンパスであってほしいか」を聞き、その声を未来の姿として描き出しています。 
🌐 サステナブルでありたいと語る組織は数多くあります。それが具体的に何を意味するのかを、内側にいる人たちに問う組織はほとんどありません。 
🤝 この授業を終えた学生は、自らが属するコミュニティから実際のデータを集め、課題の下に隠れている前提を見つけ出し、他者が議論できる形で未来を描けるようになります。

🎯 A town of 3,400 people asked our students one question: how do we stay alive?

🔍 Seventeen teams spent the term finding an answer. They went to Mashike, walked the port, and listened to farmers, fishermen, and foreign workers. Then they built real business ideas from what they heard.

🌐 Small towns are shrinking everywhere. The people who fix that will not be the ones with the best theory. They will be the ones who go and ask.

🤝 After Week 15 of Global Practical Course II, part of the Pre-Program Courses, students can take a real community problem, test an idea with the people who live it, and show how that idea pays for itself.

Our thanks to Mashike Town for working with us all the way through, from the first brief to the fieldwork to the final evening.

💡 Town officials came, listened, and invited many of the teams back to Mashike to try their projects for real. Watch the presentations on the Nitobe College website.

🎯 人口3,400人の町から、学生への問いはひとつでした。この町は、どうすれば生き残れるのか。

🔍 17チームが、増毛町を歩きました。港を訪ね、農家、漁師、外国人労働者の声を聞きました。そこで聞いた言葉から、実際に動く事業案をつくりました。

🌐 小さな町が縮んでいくのは、日本だけの話ではありません。それを変えるのは、優れた理論を持つ人ではなく、現地へ足を運んで尋ねる人です。

🤝 グローバル実践科目Ⅱ（チーム学習の実践）第15週を終えた学生は、地域の課題を受け取り、そこに暮らす人とともに案を試し、その案がどう収益につながるかまで示せるようになりました。

課題のご提示から現地調査、そして発表会当日まで、増毛町の皆さまには最後までご協力をいただきました。心より御礼申し上げます。

🗺️ Three possible futures. One poster. And no space to make the data look better than it really is. 
In Week 7 of Global Advanced Course II, part of the Nitobe College Honors Program, teams finished their posters for next week’s Future Forum. They sorted their evidence by depth, from what people complain about to what people quietly believe, then named the real changes each future would need. 🔍 
We met in the GX Studio at the Faculty of Engineering , a fitting room for work about how campus space is used. 
👥 After this session, students can present one clear research question, three genuinely different futures, and the specific conditions each future depends on, to an audience from the university that will act on what they hear. 
This is what graduate education looks like. 🎯  —

新渡戸カレッジオナーズプログラムのグローバル発展科目Ⅱ（課題発見の基礎と実践）第7回では、各チームが来週のフューチャー・フォーラムに向けてポスターを仕上げました。集めた証拠を、表面的な不満から人々が静かに信じていることまで、深さごとに整理し、それぞれの未来に必要となる具体的な変化を挙げました。🔍 
会場は工学研究院のGXスタジオ。キャンパスの空間の使われ方を問う授業には、ふさわしい場所でした。 
👥 この回を終えた学生は、1つの明確なリサーチクエスチョン、本当に異なる3つの未来、そしてそれぞれの未来が前提とする条件を、実際に動く大学の関係者に向けて示すことができます。 
これが大学院教育です。🎯

What kind of campus should Hokkaido University become? 
Graduate students spent the whole term on that question. The university is writing a Campus Master Plan for a sustainable future, and our students made it their research challenge. 
🔍 They did not study the campus from the outside. They walked it, and they talked to the staff, students, and researchers who use it every day. 
🌐 Sustainability plans are usually written by planners. This research puts the people who live and work at Hokkaido University at the centre of it. 
🎯 After this course, students can turn conversations with a community into clear, evidence-based pictures of its future.

 大学院生たちは、タームを通してこの問いに取り組みました。北海道大学はサステナブルなキャンパスを目指し、キャンパスマスタープランの策定を進めています。学生たちはその将来像を自らの研究テーマとしました。
 🔍 外から眺めるのではなく、実際にキャンパスを歩き、そこで学び働く学生・教職員・研究者と対話を重ねました。
 🌐 こうした計画は、通常、専門家の手で描かれます。この調査では、Hokkaido University で日々を過ごす人たちの考えが中心にあります。
 🎯 この授業を終えた学生は、地域や組織の人々との対話を、根拠のある未来像へと組み立てられるようになります。

🎯 Good work is not enough. If nobody can follow it, nobody can act on it. 
Week 14 of Global Practical Course II, part of the Pre-Program Courses, turned five weeks of fieldwork in Mashike Town into an eight-minute pitch. 
📐 One story. One problem. One clear ask. 
🤝 In a real meeting, officials decide in the room. A weak explanation loses a good idea.  
💡 After this session, students can build a pitch as a story, design slides that are readable from the back of the room, and hand over between speakers without losing the audience.
 This is what graduate education looks like.  — 
🎯 良い仕事をしただけでは足りません。相手に伝わらなければ、動いてもらえません。
 新渡戸カレッジプレプログラム科目「グローバル実践科目Ⅱ（チーム学習の実践）」第14回。学生たちは、増毛町での5週間のフィールドワークを、8分間のピッチにまとめました。
 📐 ひとつの物語。ひとつの課題。ひとつの明確なお願い。
 🤝 実際の会議では、その場で判断が下されます。伝え方が弱ければ、良いアイデアも埋もれてしまいます。
 💡 この回を終えた学生は、物語としてピッチを構成し、後ろの席からでも読めるスライドを設計し、話し手が交代しても聴衆を逃さない進め方ができるようになります。
 これが、大学院教育のかたちです。

📊 Good research means nothing if no one can read it.

This week, students turned three weeks of fieldwork into a single clear poster: one question, one method, the findings, three possible futures, and what must change to reach the best one.

🔬 A poster is where research meets the people who decide. This week took us to the School of Medicine Centennial Hall (北海道大学医学部百年記念館) and the SDGs Oasis, where students built posters a busy reader can take in from across the room.

🎯 After this session, students can shape raw fieldwork into a poster a decision-maker can understand in minutes.

👉 This is what graduate education looks like.

📊 どれだけ良い研究でも、誰にも伝わらなければ意味がありません。

今週、学生たちは3週間のフィールドワークを1枚のポスターにまとめました。一つの問い、一つの手法、見えてきたこと、三つの異なる未来、そして最良の未来にたどり着くために何を変えるべきか。

🔬 ポスターは、研究と、それをもとに判断する人たちが出会う場所です。今週は北海道大学医学部百年記念館とSDGsオアシスへ足を運び、離れた場所からでも読めるポスターづくりを学びました。

🎯 この授業のあと、学生たちは生のフィールドデータを、忙しい担当者が数分で理解できる一枚のポスターへと形にできます。

💥 Most good projects die right after they succeed. 
📈 In Week 13 of Global Practical Course II, teams designed what happens after the pilot: how a small win grows without falling apart. 
🌐 In the real world, plans collapse when nobody asks what could go wrong. students worked backwards from failure to protect the people who trusted them.
 🎯 After this session, students can spot risks before they appear and build a clear roadmap from now to later.
 🙏 Big thanks to our teaching assistants, Abe and Tim, for leading today’s session.

 📈 グローバル実践科目Ⅱ（チーム学習の実践）の第13週、チームはパイロットのその先を設計しました。小さな成功を、崩さずに育てる方法です。
 🌐 現実の世界では、「何がうまくいかないか」を問わないまま計画は崩れていきます。の学生は、失敗から逆算し、信頼してくれた人々を守る計画を立てました。
 🎯 この授業のあと、学生はリスクが現れる前に見抜き、今から将来までの明確なロードマップを描けるようになります。
