Rather than thinking about “what I want to make,” design thinking begins by asking, “what does the other person actually need?” In this workshop, we facilitated 124 DGi students through Stanford University d.school’s design thinking activity, The Wallet Project. The workshop challenges students to set aside their assumptions and begin by deeply understanding another person. It was one of the final sessions in the six-week “Unlearning” series in Global Innovation I, where students experienced the power of empathy through hands-on learning.

The Wallet Project is an open educational resource published by Stanford d.school, and Japanese translations are also available. Because it allows participants to experience the core design thinking process in a short amount of time, it has been widely used in schools, universities, and companies around the world.
