A Golden Week treat.
In case you are stuck inside here is a simple scone recipe. Instead of an oven you simply cook in a frying pan. An electric pan is fine.
Girdle Scones.
• 1 cup flour 250grams
• 2 teaspoons of baking powder
• 1 Tablespoon of butter
• pinch of salt
• About 1/2 cup of milk
Sift the dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking powder) into a bowl
Rub in the butter.
Add enough milk to make a soft dough. If too dry add more milk. If too sticky add more flour.
On a floured board shape into a circle or square.
Roll it out so it's about 1.5 cm thick and cut into 6 or eight squares.
Cook in a medium to hot pan with a little bit of butter. They have to be turned over. Serve hot with butter and jam. Yummy :-)

You can add raisins, or cheese or anything you want to the mixture. It isn't sweet so for sweet scones add some sugar.

An enjoyable Saturday before driving to Auckland.

Takuya had an emotional farewell that left many of us red eyed. Being a boys school and saying their goodbyes made it easier for the photographer. As a show of respect and friendship the boys at the hostel suddenly performed a Haka. A very powerful and moving moment.

Friday was a sad day for Wakana and Takuya. Lots of goodbyes and a few tears as well. Wakana has made many friends and will be busy keeping in touch. I couldn't take any photos of Wakana saying goodbye in her hostel and then when her and Stacey came out they were too sad I didn't want to.

Found out that on Thursday year 9 and 10 girls' high hostel students had dinner with year 9 and 10 boys' high hostel students at the boys' high hostel. They were celebrating St Patricks Day. Takuya won a prize on the night and his SHOUT of joy gave everyone a surprise. Hopefully Wakana and Takuya have some photos.

Dropped into Boys' High this morning and Takuya's friends thought he was leaving then. They were happy to hear he was staying for the day. He has obviously made some close friends.

Another scorching (very hot) day in Whangarei. Today is the last day at school for Takuya and Wakana. After school we are heading out to Whangarei Heads for a night at the beach. A chance for a last swim in the ocean and a bbq. On Saturday morning we will be drivng down to Auckland. There we wll do a little bit of sightseeing and some shopping. Then on Sunday morning it is to the airport and farewell New Zealand. See you soon.
