Gion, Kyoto
Gion is one of Kyoto’s most historic districts.
Its stone-paved streets and traditional wooden townhouses show the beauty of old Japan.
In Gion, maiko (apprentice geisha) and geiko (Kyoto’s term for geisha) continue Japan’s traditional performing arts.
They preserve customs such as traditional dance, music, and hospitality.
If you visit Kyoto, Gion is one of the best places to experience traditional Japanese culture.
The Gion Festival takes place from July 1 (Wed) to July 31 (Fri).
