Has this ever happened to you? You can say it perfectly while you practice, and then when the time comes, you choke 😭 Don’t worry, it happens!! If you’re really struggling, try to listen closely to see if native speakers sometimes modify the word to make it easier to say - we do this all the time in Japanese! Here’s an example with attameru 😊👍🍙🍔

It’s July 7th! The 7th day, of the 7th month. Just the time for Tanabata Festival (or, Star Festival ⭐️)! From July 7th to mid August, you’ll find Tanabata celebrations going on around Japan (the dates vary by location, although many places celebrate on July 7th). During this time, you’ll find wishes tied to bamboo leaves, street food, and fireworks! One of the most important parts of Tanabata, though, is the stars! Today we have a special love story for you about why we celebrate the star festival.

This post gives a good idea of what the video is about - but you’ll really be missing out if you don’t watch the video! Head to the link in our bio to experience this love story the way it was meant to be experienced! 😊🍔❤️👘⭐️

In Japan, a really common question you’ll get when getting to know friends is “What’s your blood type?” This is because it was theorized in Japan in the 1900s that blood type was an indicator for personality traits - your blood type could be used to classify who you are and how you act! While this belief may not be super firm, it’s a little similar to astrology signs; a fun way to talk about your personality!

Japanese fall foods! It’s the best time of year to enjoy the changing seasons with some of the amazing traditional autumn dishes! 🍂🍲

Have you heard of momijigari? It’s a way to appreciate the (brief) beauty of the changing colors that come in the fall! Japanese people love these temporary periods of natural beauty - there’s a Japanese phrase “物の哀れ” (mono no aware) which means “the ahh-ness of things, life, and love.” It refers to the gentle sadness you might feel when you realize that the changing leaf colors or cherry blossoms are impermanent and temporary! Awareness of their inevitable decline is part of what makes enjoying them so special, which is why we have cherry blossom viewing festivals and momijigari! Instead of feeling bad about it, let’s be sure to get outside and enjoy it before it’s gone! 🍁 🍂
