When teaching very young learners, being expressive is key! 🎭✨ Use big gestures, exaggerated facial expressions, and lots of energy to keep them engaged. 🎶👋

🧒👦 Kids learn best when they can see, hear, and do, so don’t be afraid to wave your hands, use thumbs up 👍, and encourage them to repeat after you!

🎤 Try this:
✅ Sing slowly first, so they can follow along.
✅ Use clear gestures to help them understand the words.
✅ Encourage call & response (e.g., hold your hand to your ear to prompt them to repeat).

💡 Tip for new teachers: Repetition is your best friend! The more they hear & do it, the faster they’ll learn.

Last week, one of my students had to walk home alone because his friend, who usually walks with him didn’t come to classes.
It was dark so I offered to drive him, I insisted to take him home, but he said that he wasn’t afraid to walk by himself… just to see him, later on, basically running all the way back home. 💦
Wondering what was going through that poor little boy’s mind, and how scared he might have been, also got me thinking about people of all ages trying to overcome their fears and emotions when they have to deal with unpredictable situations or walk through unknown territories by themselves, figuratively speaking, as well.
For a toddler that may mean the playground, when his mom is out of sight; for a young student, his own neighborhood; for an adult, a new city or maybe a foreign country… 🗺
We all try to learn how to calm our nervousness, to control our urge to cry for help or just literally cry, we become frustrated with those overwhelming feelings for the greater part of our lives… and then, when we reach a certain age, we become masters of controlling those emotions.
We then have to deal with the opposite situation: by gaining heaps of self-confidence, we simply become so immune to everything that happens around us, that nothing moves us anymore… just to realize that there’s no fun in (not) doing or (not) feeling that at all. Because the presence of those emotions, the uncertainty that triggers them, the new experiences that we get to live, regardless of the nature of the sensations that they awaken in ourselves - those things are precisely the ones that make us feel more alive!

So, I’d say that instead of constantly trying to become masters of our emotions, we should choose to enjoy and cherish every single one of them, just like my brave little student did.

Calling these amazing people just ‘students’ seems inappropriate… I have been teaching some of them for almost 10 years now… ❤️ They have gotten to the point where they don’t even need a teacher anymore and yet they’re still coming to my class. 🥰
They were there when I’ve finally made one of my dreams come true - opening my own school, when I crushed my car and I didn’t know what to do - twice 😬 (the husband literally got underneath it to see how bad things were), when I bursted into tears right in the middle of our class because I was going through an ugly trial, when I passed the JLPT test; sharing tears of joy or sadness together throughout the years.

We are way past the student - teacher relationship, we have become family ❤️ and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of my life for so long! 🙏
