All the three Japanese second-year classes enjoyed a class lunch this week. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax, get to know one another better, and strengthen class bonds outside the classroom. They shared great food, lots of laughter, and memorable conversations.

Yesterday, KCJS Summer Program students enjoyed a bowling outing🎳

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect and get to know each other!

Here is a comment from Hanqi Zhou (KCJS Summer Program in Modern Japanese, Stanford University) about the event:

Going bowling with everyone was such a fun way to unwind and connect outside of the classroom. It was amazing to see how competitive and supportive everyone got — the energy was incredible with all the high-fives and cheering after every strike and spare. It’s moments like these that remind me how KCJS isn’t just about studying Japanese, but also about building friendships and making memories in Kyoto!

This video introduces an elective class. The course, titled ‘Japanese Literature as World Literature,’ is taught by Professor Shigemi Nakagawa.

In this course, students consider various methods for rethinking Japanese literature as world literature, while at the same time exploring how Japanese literature has been generated in the modern era.

They discuss literature while referencing visual materials and addressing global issues like imperialism, colonialism, Marxism, and gender.
