Yoshida Student Center is an international student residence established in Kyoto in 1963 as a place of encounter for students from around the world. The Center strives to develop character strengths for international leadership in young men aspiring to excellence in their future careers. Friendship among students of different countries facilitates a wider perspective on life, deeper understanding of other cultures, and a maturing personality. Students find an atmosphere of freedom and friendship and chances for sports, outings and volunteering. Activities are open to non-residents as well. The Center is an undertaking of The Foundation for the Advancement of Education, which also sponsors Shimogamo Academy, a student residence in Kyoto for women.
YSC helps students take full advantage of their university years. Personal endeavor in study develops self-confidence and daring for planning a professional future and formulating ideals of working for a better world. And the short years of university life are a time to widen horizons and perhaps think more internationally. The Residence offers chances for volunteering abroad and activities towards proficiency in foreign languages.
