International Shorin-Ryu Kiyobukan

The Kiyobukan Association was founded in 2007 by Hanshi, 10th Dan, Seiei Nakaza of to preserve the legacy Okinawan Shorin-Ryu KIYOBUKAN. and Canada.

Matsumura--Itosu--Chibana--Nakazato--Nakaza. This is our Kobayashi lineage. This site is designed for members and non-members as a bulletin board for different events to include: traditional tournaments, seminars, camps, pictures and video sharing. Brief History: Hanshi Nakaza, Seiei was taught and promoted by Hanshi Nakazato, Shugoro of the Shorinkan Kyokai. In 2007, Hanshi Nakaza officially resigned his position as the Vice-Board of Directors along with his membership in the Shorinkan to form his own association, know as the Kiyobukan (Hall of the True Warrior). In 2009, Nakaza promoted Brian Hobson to 7th dan and appointed him as the Director of the U.S. Currently we have 10 dojos (Okinawa-1, USA-6 & Canada-2 and South Africa-1) registered as official Kiyobukan members and several more looking to gain full memebrship. In 2013, Nakaza Sensei, promoted Brian to 8th Dan inaddition to the new position as So-Honbucho (Executive Director). Later in 2013, regretfully, Nakaza Sensei passed away. His final instruction was to promote Brian Hobson to 9th Dan-Hanshi and the sole heir to the Kiyobukan Association. If interested in membership, contact Brian Hobson via facebook messenger.

Thursday night Black Belt only training to kick off 17th Annual Kiyobukan Summer Camp.

The 17th Annual Kiyobukan 2026 Summer Camp was a success. I personally would like to guve a special thanks to all of the instructors: Hanshi Masanobu Kikukawa, Hanshi Darren Myers, Kyoshi Greg Turnbull, Kyoshi James Rault, Shihan Marques McCammon, Shihan-Dai Eric Jones & Shihan-Dai Nauja Tillery. Special recognition goes to Sensei Charles Erickson and his students at the Seijitsu Dojo from , Virginia. They are a newest dojo to join the Kiyobukan Association and everyone had a BLAST meeting them and sharing our brand of Shorin-ryu.
We are planning a couple of exciting Conclaves for the upcoming year as well as the Summer Camp will return to Virginia this year. Stay tuned and train hard!!!

For the first time, the head of Kiyobukan has set foot on South African soil…and what a moment it has been.

To stand together in the dojo—different countries, different backgrounds—
yet moving as one, guided by the same traditions, the same spirit…

It is something truly special.

What began years ago has now travelled far and wide,reaching new shores, new students, new families—yet the heart of Kiyobukan remains unchanged.

Seeing the connection between teacher and student,across continents, across cultures…reminds us that this art is alive.

This visit is more than a milestone.It is a reminder:

Kiyobukan is not limited by distance.It lives wherever its spirit is carried.
