Announcing the Imabari English Association
A new organization for Imabari English teachers.
Let's improve our English teaching together!
Our goals:
-Practice easy techniques to teach English without using any Japanese.
-Help each other and share lesson plans and materials.
-Learn new skills to lower your class preparation time.
Beginning in 2013, English teachers in Japan will be required to teach their classes with as much English as possible. Despite this new mandate, there are not many opportunities for teachers to get new training in reorganizing their lessons or in improving their English conversation skills. This all comes at a time when teachers are already extremely busy with their normal responsibilities.
With that in mind, we'd like to announce the Imabari English Association. Our goal is to help teachers make the change into teaching their classes primarily in English while making sure that the lessons are still easy to understand. Special attention will be given to techniques to keep students motivated even in the new lesson style.
Currently, there are very few role models for teachers who wish to teach their classes entirely in English. As such, we would like to provide Imabari teachers with the opportunity to find or become role models through peer-led discussions and lectures. Free seminars will be given by a native English speaker with experience teaching high school level English to teenagers, and teachers will be able to participate in round table workshops to help exchange their own advice within the Imabari teacher community. Additionally, any association member that wishes to hold their own seminar is encouraged to do so. We have a lot of talented instructors here in the Imabari area, and together we can make our town one of the leading English centers of the country!
