📣 Second Call for Proposals
📗 WALS 2026 (Online)
🔗 Connecting Lesson Study Around the World
🙏 We warmly invite you to submit your contributions to the 2026 Conference of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS), to be held online November 2-4, 2026.
📆 Submission deadline is April 15, 2026.
The conference theme, Connecting Lesson Study Around the World, continues to explore how educators learn from one another, from students, and from research—within a school, region, country, or across international boundaries.
The 2026 Conference will mark the 20th anniversary of WALS and the inauguration of online conferences (2026, 2028, 2030…) that will alternate with face-to-face conferences (2027, 2029, 2031…). The online conferences will reduce WALS's carbon footprint and also reduce cost to participants. The conference fee (including WALS membership) is 150 USD. Full-time students and school teachers (of students ages 0-18) have a reduced rate of $75, with submission of student or teacher identification card. A certificate of presentation or participation will be issued. With no travel or accommodation expenses and a lower conference fee, the online conference will open our work to many more educators and create new opportunities to conduct lesson study together via video.
The conference sessions will be divided into three time zones, with four to six hours of conference programming each day. The global schedule will be released on July 1. Registration is individual, but we hope that some local Lesson Study teams will get together to attend the conference and hold local events outside of the online conference hours!
The types of sessions are available at www.walsnet.org/2026/call-for-proposal. During the submission process, you will be prompted to choose the session type for your abstract. The abstract must be in English, but some types of sessions may be organised in other languages if a sufficient number of requests are made for that language.
A 25 USD non-refundable submission fee will be charged, but will be deducted from your registration fee when you register (starting on July 1). The fee allows the organisers to offset some costs associated with submission and review.
We look forward to seeing you online at WALS 2026 and to Connecting Lesson Study Around the World!

🇪🇪 Lesson Study is coming to Estonian schools!
University of Tartu and Smart Future Fund - Targa Tuleviku Fond - have launched a project to introduce Lesson Study approach in Estonian schools. Researchers from the Institute of Education are preparing Estonian language guidance materials for teachers.
📚From February to May 2026, three pilot schools will try out the first Lesson Study cycles to help refine the method for local school needs. The research team collects data through lesson observations, questionnaires (both for students and teachers), and teacher interviews.
🏁The goal of the project - stronger teacher collaboration and better learning outcomes – is in accordance with LIFT Project’s aims in initial teacher education. The project is led by Assoc Prof Liina Lepp, with Kadri Linder, Prof Äli Leijen and Prof Margus Pedaste.
