Untold_Future Memory Tricycle
When the sculptural work Future Memory Tricycle, modeled after the “Shin-chan’s Tricycle” exhibited at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, was permanently installed at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum in Geneva, the Future Memory team finally met the now-elderly family of little Shin-chan for the first time.

I had long known the story: that the tricycle of three-year-old Shin-chan, who perished in the atomic bombing, had been buried in the backyard together with his small body, and that forty years later, in 1985, it was unearthed and donated to the Peace Memorial Museum. Yet until that day, the family had never spoken publicly about the circumstances surrounding it.

広島平和記念資料館の「伸ちゃんの三輪車」を象った彫刻作品『Future Memory Tricycle』がジュネーヴの赤十字博物館で恒久展示されることになり、年老いた伸ちゃんの家族と初めて会うことができた。
三歳で原爆により亡くなった伸ちゃん。その亡骸が三輪車とともに裏庭に埋められ、四十年後の1985年に掘り起こされて資料館に寄贈されたことは、広く知られている。しかしその背後にあった家族の痛みと祈りの物語は、これまで語られることがなかった。今回、家族の方が静かにその経緯を訥々と語ってくださった。

アーティストの藤元明が、東京藝術大学にて特別講義を実施しました。

講義では、「Future Memory」をはじめ、東京オリンピック開催とそれに伴う都市開発の加速を批評的に捉えた《2021プロジェクト》など、都市と記憶、未来へのまなざしをテーマにした代表的なアート実践が紹介されました。

社会の変化や矛盾に応答するアーティストの役割、そしてアートが未来の記憶をどう形成しうるのかについて、学生たちと対話を交えながら語りました。

Artist Akira Fujimoto delivered a special lecture at Tokyo University of the Arts.

During the lecture, he introduced a range of representative art practices centered on cities, memory, and perspectives on the future, including Future Memory and the 2021 Project, which critically examines the Tokyo Olympics and the accelerated urban development surrounding it.

Through dialogue with students, he discussed the role of artists in responding to social change and contradiction, and how art can contribute to shaping the memories of the future.

記憶と未来をつなぐソーシャル・イノベーション・フォーラム「COLORS」を、広島市のgallery Gにて開催しました。10月20日から25日までの5日間、多くの方にご来場いただき、平和と希望について対話を紡ぐ時間となりました。

We hosted the social innovation forum “COLORS,” which connects memory and the future, at gallery G in Hiroshima City. Over five days from October 20 to 25, we welcomed many visitors and created a space for dialogue on peace and hope.

記憶と未来をつなぐソーシャル・イノベーション・フォーラム「COLORS」を、10月20日から25日にかけて広島市gallery Gにて開催しました。藤元明、Cannon Hersey、徳永雄太による「Future Memory」シリーズの作品を軸に、アート・映画・音楽が交差する、平和と希望の対話を生み出す5日間となりました。

We held “COLORS,” a social innovation forum connecting memory and the future, at Gallery G in Hiroshima from October 20 to 25. Centered on the Future Memory series by Akira Fujimoto, Cannon Hersey, and Yuta Tokunaga, the five-day event created a space for dialogue on peace and hope through the intersection of art, film, and music.

In October 2025, Koko Kondo, who was eight months old at the time of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, spoke at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the international peace conference “Daring Peace” held in Rome and organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Italy, the Queen of Belgium, and Pope Leo XIV, among others. Koko spoke about her childhood among orphans who had lost their families to the bomb, as well as her encounter in the United States with the co-pilot of the Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the atomic bomb. She stated powerfully, “It is not people we must hate, but war itself.”
The closing ceremony took place at the Colosseum, where the Pope emphasized that “war must never become a substitute for dialogue.” Standing alongside international representatives, Koko joined in a shared prayer, expressing solidarity in the pursuit of peace.

2025年10月、ローマで開催されたサンテジィディオ共同体主催の国際平和会議「Daring Peace」にて、広島で生後8ヶ月のときに被爆した近藤紘子さんが開幕式と閉幕式に登壇しました。
開会式にはイタリア大統領、ベルギー王妃、ローマ教皇レオ14世などが出席。近藤さんは、幼少期に原爆により親を失った孤児たちとの生活、そして米国で原爆投下機エノラ・ゲイの副操縦士と対面した経験について語り、「憎むべきは人ではなく、戦争そのものです」と力強く述べました。
閉会式はコロッセオで行われ、教皇は「戦争が対話の代わりとなってはならない」と訴えました。近藤さんは各国代表とともに祈りを捧げ、平和への連帯を示しました。

Artists and researchers Hikaru Sato and Niki Tokunaga from 1Future gave an inspirational talk on the theme of memory and narrative, while Yuta Tokunaga, CEO of ARCHI HATCH and member of the Future Memory Project, led a lecture on 3D scanning.

Participants brought objects that they wished to preserve as “memories for the future.” By creating titles and captions, they gave narrative power to their personal memories.

The workshop provided a shared space to explore the idea that not only humans, but also living beings and objects, can serve as storytellers of memory. It became a moment of dialogue to imagine new possibilities for how memory can be carried forward.
