６月19日（金）より、令和８年度夏季集中プログラムが始まりました！
本プログラムは、アメリカの協定校の学生を対象に、約１か月間、日本語と日本文化を学ぶものです。今年は８名の学生が参加しています。
日本文化の授業では、空手に関する講義や近江だるまの絵付け体験、彦根城見学、長浜散策、奈良訪問など、滋賀県や日本の文化・歴史に触れる多彩なプログラムを楽しんでいます！
プログラムは折り返しを迎え、残り約2週間となりました。今後もさまざまな体験を通して、学びをさらに深めていきます。
キャンパスで見かけた際は、ぜひ気軽に声をかけてみてください😊

Our Summer Intensive Program 2026 began on Friday, June 19!
This one-month program offers students from our partner universities in the United States the opportunity to study Japanese language and culture.
As part of their Japanese culture classes, the students have been enjoying a variety of activities, including a karate lecture, painting traditional Omi Daruma dolls, visiting Hikone Castle, exploring Nagahama, and taking a trip to Nara. Through these experiences, they are learning about the culture and history of Shiga and Japan.
The program has now reached its halfway point, with about two weeks remaining. We hope the students will continue to deepen their understanding of Japan through many more exciting experiences.

交換留学生を対象とした日本の伝統文化を学ぶ科目「Traditional Japanese Culture」では、3週にわたり日本の宗教について学びます。
石田法雄先生をお迎えし、第1・2週では神道と仏教についての講義を受けた後、第3週には彦根の井伊家の菩提寺として知られる清凉寺を訪れました。
禅の基本的な作法を教わった後、お香の香りに包まれた禅堂で、静寂の中、実際に坐禅を体験しました。
その後の意見交換では、僧侶としての生活についてなど、留学生から村瀬住職へ多くの質問が寄せられ、貴重なお話を伺うことができました。

In the course Traditional Japanese Culture, designed for exchange, students learn about Japanese religions through a three-session series.
After attending lectures on Shinto and Buddhism by Professor Hoyu Ishida during the first two sessions, the students visited Seiryoji Temple, known as the family temple of the Ii clan of Hikone, in the third session.
After learning the basic etiquette of Zen practice, they experienced zazen meditation in a Zen hall filled with the soothing scent of incense and surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere.
During the discussion session that followed, the students asked Chief Priest Murase many questions, including about life as a Buddhist monk, and had the opportunity to hear valuable insights from his experiences.

ようこそ！滋賀県立大学へ🌸
4月から新しく11名の交換留学生が本学に入学しました！3月27日のオリエンテーションでは、それぞれのチューターさんと一緒に学校生活や普段の生活で必要な情報について学び、キャンパスツアーに行きました！
4月10日には留学生歓迎会があり、交換留学生や私費留学生、日本人学生などたくさんの方にお集まりいただき、とても賑やかな歓迎会となりました！
留学生のみなさんが楽しく、充実した大学生活を過ごせるよう願っています🌟みなさんも校内で見かけたらぜひ声をかけてみてくださいね！

Welcome to The University of Shiga Prefecture🌸
11 new exchange students enrolled at our university in April! At the orientation on March 27th, they learned about school life and essential information for daily life with their tutors, and also went on a campus tour!
On April 10th, we had a welcome party for the international students, which was a very lively event with many people in attendance, including exchange students, privately funded students, and Japanese students!
We hope all the international students have a fun and fulfilling university life🌟 Please feel free to say hello if you see them on campus!

2025年度後期の交換留学プログラムを終え、22名の外国人留学生が無事に本国へ帰国しました✈️
1月27日には留学生送別会を開催し、私費留学生や交換留学生に加えて、たくさんの日本人学生も参加してくれました。おしゃべりしたり、一緒に写真を撮ったり、会場は終始にぎやかで、とても楽しい時間になりました！
滋賀県立大学で出会い、育んだ友情が、これからもずっと続いていきますように✨

After completing the Fall 2025 Exchange Program, 22 exchange students have successfully finished their studies and returned to their home countries ✈️
A farewell party for international students was held on January 27. In addition to privately funded international students and exchange students, many Japanese students also joined. Everyone enjoyed chatting and taking photos together, and the venue was filled with a lively and joyful atmosphere throughout the event!
We hope the friendships formed at The University of Shiga Prefecture will continue to grow and last for many years to come ✨

１月のTraditional Japanese Cultureは華道の授業がありました。専門の先生をお招きし、歴史や心構えについて講義を聞いた後、実際に体験をしました。細かいルールに苦戦している学生もいましたが、貴重な経験となりました。
そして、後期最後の授業では、学習のまとめとしてプレゼンテーションを行いました。自分でテーマを選び、授業で学んだ内容をさらに詳しく調べたり、日本と母国を比較したりして発表をしました。

In January, Traditional Japanese Culture class, students learned flower arrangement. We invited a specialist teacher to give a lecture on the history and mindset of the art, and then they actually tried them out. Some students struggled with the detailed rules, but it was a valuable experience for them.
The final class of fall semester saw students give presentations to summarize their studies. Students chose their own themes and gave presentations on topics they had learned in class, researching them in more detail and comparing Japan with their home countries.

11月26日の Traditional Japanese Culture では、俳句をテーマに学びました。
この日はリピー先生の「Essay Writing」クラスとの合同授業で、交換留学生と日本人学生がペアになって課題に取り組みました。
いつもより笑い声が多く、教室中に活気があふれる、とても楽しい時間になりました。

On November 26, the Traditional Japanese Culture class focused on the theme of Haiku.
It was a joint session with Prof. Rippey’s “Essay Writing” class, where exchange students and Japanese students paired up to work on the task together.
The classroom was filled with more laughter than usual, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the lesson.

11月8日に留学生バス旅行として福井県へ行きました！🚌
朝９時に大学を出発し、午前は日本三大和紙にも数えられる「越前和紙」の紙漉き体験をしました。手順の説明を聞き、桁という道具を使って一人ずつ紙漉きに挑戦しました。押し花で飾ったり色付けをしたりしてオリジナルの和紙を作ることができました。
午後は曹洞宗の大本山である永平寺へ行きました。お昼休憩も兼ねて門前町で自由に過ごした後、ガイドの方の案内で永平寺を見学しました。広い境内の中は、美しい天井絵や修行が行われる建物など見所がたくさんありました。木々も紅葉し始めていて、とても素敵な風景を見ることもできました。🍂
日本の伝統と文化、そして秋を感じられる楽しいバス旅行となりました！😊

On 8th November, we went to Fukui prefecture as an international student bus trip! 🚌
We departed from the university at 9 am, and in the morning, we had a papermaking experience of “Echizen washi” which is one of Japan’s three major washi papers. After the brief about how to make it, we each tried to make it using a tool called “Keta”. We could make an original washi paper by decollating it with pressed flowers and adding colors.
In the afternoon, we went to Eiheiji temple which is the head temple of the Soto sect. After a free time including lunch at Monzenmachi, we had a tour of Eiheiji temple by guides. There were many sights such as beautiful ceiling paintings and training buildings for monk in the large precinct. The trees were beginning to turn red, and we were able to see some beautiful scenery. 🍂
It was a fun bus trip that allowed us to experience Japanese traditions, history, and autumn! 😊

「日本語Ⅳ」の授業で、留学生のみなさんが「自分の街」や「自分の大学」について紹介してくれました。母国の魅力や学生生活について、写真とともに楽しく紹介されています。
A1棟2階、エレベーター前の掲示板に掲示しています。

International students created reports introducing their hometowns and the universities in the Japanese IV class. They share the charm of their countries and the university life through photos and short stories. The reports are displayed on the bulletin board on the 2nd floor of A1 bldg., right in front of the elevator.

11月3日に開催された彦根城まつりパレードに県大の留学生が参加しました！午前中は雨が降っていましたが、出発時間には晴れてイベント日和となりました🌞
東映の方々に衣装を着付けてもらい、侍の姿で彦根城周辺や商店街を練り歩きました。慣れない着物や初めて履く草鞋は少し大変だったようですが、沿道の観覧者の方からの応援を受けながら最後まで歩き切ることができました！留学生にとって貴重な経験になったと思います。パレードにはミシガン日本センターからも留学生が参加しており、同じ留学生同士交流もできました🌼

On November 3rd, the USP international students participated in the Hikone Castle Festival Parade! It rained in the morning, but by the time they set off, the weather was sunny and perfect for the event. 🌞
The students dressed up as samurai by Toei company, and they paraded around Hikone Castle and the shopping district. It seems that it was a little difficult for students to wear the unfamiliar kimono and straw sandals for the first time, but with the cheering from spectators along the way, they were able to complete the parade to the end! It was a valuable experience for the international students. Students from the JCMU also participated in the parade, and they were able to interact with fellow international students. 🌼
