Here is the way to count people. We use the 人 (read as にん).
 
To ask “how many people” you use 何人 (read as なんにん).
 
By the way, there is another way to count people but it is more formal. In Japan when you walk into a restaurant they won’t ask you 何人?They will use a different counter. If you know what it is, post it in the comments! 👇🏾😄

There are 5 related endings that can be added to nouns, adjectives and verbs*. The endings are:

ない
なかった
なければ
なく
なくて
 
*For nouns and adjectives only, you can put the は or も particles before these endings.

生徒でない or 生徒ではない
重くない or 重くもない

歩かない is OK, but you can’t say 歩かはない
