This Monday, a memorial service for the late faculty members of Kanto College of Acupuncture was held at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. This annual ceremony has been conducted around this time of year, stemming from the connection that the school’s founder, Dr. Sangō Kobayashi, once held I Ching lectures at Sensoji.
On that day, the streets of Asakusa were as crowded and noisy as a packed commuter train. Yet, inside the Five-Storied Pagoda where the memorial service took place, there were no tourists—only stillness and silence. I am deeply grateful to have been able to offer prayers there again this year. The striking contrast between the hustle and bustle outside and the profound quiet within never fails to leave a lasting impression on me.
