OLYMPICS 2024
I have learnt some valuable lessons- spritually, personally and as an administrator.
The third lesson, I want to share which is very profound is the 200m male race.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 summarized- the race is not for the swift nor the strong but for those who can endure to the end (patience and endurance).
Based on the performances of Lyles, it was expected that he would have been the champion for the 200m. He has boasting about this all season long, doubling up gold, etc. His antics made it no easier when he was supposed to walk out to his lane, he was so confident he sprang up, jumped, twirled everything that was funny. He was about to win.
The rest of the field was quiet, little did he or anyone of us knew that a young man from Botswana would win. Do you remember the story of David and Goliath? Pretty much the same.
James 4:10 summarized- humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and He shall lift you up.

Moral: Do not become distracted by the noise in the market, focus on the price. In life, people will perform tactics, say things aimed to make us feel coward and useless and change people's perception about us. The devil will perform tactics to distract us on our spirtual walk and make us feel that God is not with us.
Loud and arrogant does not equal to winning, there is an unwritten principle about humility. Let people talk and carry on, just place ourselves under the hands of the Lord and establish our ways before Him.
HE that is with us, is mightier than THEY against us!

Three-Four years ago, during the COVID 19 lock down, I navigated the online and asynchronous classroom extremely well. I became an active member with the Jamaica Teaching Council being a mentor to all Human Ecology Pre-trained teachers and also participated in training sessions for In-Service Teacher, I was even providing training to the National Police College of Jamaica.

I knew I had it in me, to become even more far reaching. So I reached out to a friend, colleagues and mentor (Cadabbra Bernard-Brown from undergrad to grad school) to discuss an idea I had honed for a while- starting a YouTube Channel and offering education consulting to teachers and administrators. It was an awesome and great feeling.

I did quite a number of videos on almost every aspect in Education, I have always love to manipulate content to fit the needs of my students and as such I was encouraged by my professor at Grad School (Dr. Teran Milford) to pursue Curriuclum and Instruction as a Masters Degree and sure it worked for me.

My videos have helped many struggling teachers and gave me the opportunity to provide guidance to school teachers and administrators across the world. Last night I got this email and it warmed my heart. I am so happy that my work continues to help others be their best!

Rubrics are important because they clarify for students the qualities their work should have. This point is often expressed in terms of students understanding the learning target and criteria for success. For this reason, rubrics help teachers teach, they help coordinate instruction and assessment, and they help students learn.

https://youtu.be/UMAZQVltl4A Synchronous learning refers to a learning event in which a group of participants is engaged in learning at the same time while asynchronous learning refers to the opposite. The instructor, the learner, and other participants are not engaged in the learning process at the same time. There is no real-time interaction with other people. As you go out to this new work week and term have a blessed and fulfilled one. Please share the link with friends, students, colleagues and administrators.

Backward design challenges "traditional" methods of curriculum planning. In traditional curriculum planning, a list of content that will be taught is created and or selected. In backward design, the educator starts with goals, creates or plans out assessments and finally makes lesson plans. The idea in backward design is to teach toward the "end point" or learning goals, which typically ensures that content taught remains focused and organized.

To cover means to conceal while uncover means to remove the covering off something. As we reengage students for face to face learning, we must make a conscious decision to “uncover” the curriculum. The benefits are awesome and we are sure to unleash learners through this approach. Uncovering the curriculum takes the learner on a journey from absolute knowledge, where the student plays a passive role, accepting knowledge as either right or wrong, taking all cues from the teacher….to contextual knowledge, where the learner's knowledge is built upon evidence in context, and the student's role is to think through problems and integrate/apply knowledge at a formal operational level.

Uncovering the curriculum is a very important component of teaching and learning. It is not a surface approach but rather a depth approach to meeting the needs of all learners based on their context. In unpacking the curriculum to meet learning loss, the educator must first understand the learners, the context of the environment, the resources and most importantly the foundation concepts of the subject. In this video, I briefly explained what is meant by uncovering and what is required of us as we do so.
