The school derived its name from the Late Venerable Archdeacon Lark land Augustus Lennon, who had a dream for a college to be built in Mocho. He donated a parcel of land on which the school is built. The school opened its door in September 1969 as the Mocho Junior Secondary School, with a population of five hundred students and twenty-seven teachers including the then Principal, Mr. S.B. Reid. Over the years, the school has been upgraded to a Secondary, Comprehensive High and is presently a High School. At the inception of the school, students were drawn from four feeder schools, namely: Mocho Primary, Richmond Park Primary, Brixton Hill Primary and Mount Airy Primary. Today students enter through the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), and Grade Nine Achievement Test (GNAT).

Lennon High School operates on an Extended Day with a population of one thousand one hundred students. The school offers a wide range of subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) as well as National Council of Technical Vocational Educational and Training (NCTVET)
