Coronavirus Announcement



Dear Members of the Avant Academy of Music Community,

For the past few weeks, like you, I have been following the news about the coronavirus and have been waiting to understand how best to respond in the most reasonable and safe way. Since we have had our first case of the virus in Jamaica and there was news that there was a possibility that children could have been exposed I have been thinking about what action we should take as a school. The decision is not being taken lightly as there is the possibility of serious harm to our elderly, staff members and students. This virus reveals how we are all connected.

Our goal is to limit the exposure of our community to the virus. So we have decided to suspend all classes until further notice

We will immediately begin transitioning to virtual instruction for all private lessons. Our goal is to have this transition complete by Tuesday, April 14, which is the first day of scheduled classes in the new term following the Easter Break.

The administrative team will communicate more specific guidance and information about rescheduling classes and any makeup sessions.

To our music mentors and independent contractors, I recognize that this will mean a lot of extra work to change the way you teach but I remind you that this is for the safety of our students and our entire community.

To our administrative staff and management, I know this will put a lot of pressure on you as you have to make significant changes in how we operate and we set up the infrastructure for the new model and will push your resources to the limit. However, in the last few months, I have seen your ability to respond to challenges of problem-solving with vulnerability and creativity and I fully expect that you will be able to find solutions to meet the needs of our staff and customers.

Let us do our part to protect each other, take every necessary precaution, maintain social distancing, good hygiene and think about the elderly and the vulnerable. We are all connected.

December 20 just got more exciting. Our event has added to the list of performers. Come out and hear this amazing musician perform.
Tickets available at the school (66 Paddington Terrace), or at the gate on the night of the event.
What a night it shall be!!!

Chief examiner Philip Aldred is coming in today from London to hold the first London College of Music exams. It's a long flight and he has a lot of work to do so we are happy about the services of VIP Attractions who run the Club Kingston at the airport. They are going to make sure he is comfortable and gets through customs and immigration hassle-free. It is affordable and so far the customer service has been great with a Jamaican style.
