"There are so many things that happened this week that changed the way you thought about the world, about yourself and that is something that we can only celebrate”

Yesterday was Graduation Day for our LEAP delegates.

We had the immense privilege of hearing Musical Originals performing at the graduation ceremony. Led by the inspirational Imogen Nicholls MBE, the choir recently won recognition at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. They not only won the Senior Children’s Choirs and Children’s Open Choirs but were also named ‘Young Choir of the World 2025’! We couldn’t have dreamed of a better musical treat to conclude our eight days of learning.

Karen-Mae Hill, OBE, the High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom, once again made us the honour of attending LEAP. Her graduation speech was stirring and inspiring to us all, reminding us to embrace diversity, make up our own definition of success, value relationships and live a purpose-driven life.

She concluded her speech saying: “LEAPING, excellence is a collaborative journey but it’s also very much an individual drive” and we couldn’t agree more!

We once again would like to thank Gaëlle Deschamps who concocted this year’s brilliant curriculum, the 40+ professionals who came along this week to speak to or coach our delegates and our many sponsors! LEAP couldn’t have happened without you!

And the winners are...

The winning teams of LEAP 2025 are Flourish and The Money Mindset.

Flourish is an app developed by Emily, Karin, Kitty, Lauren and Samantha to allow teenagers to gain back their life by enabling them to get "rewards" for every good habit completed.

The Money Mindset is a website developed by Ayaka, Jasmin, Matilda, Miya and Sienna to help young people from ages 8-18 with financial education.

Congratulations to all the teams for their hard work! Both panels reflected on how well all had presented and how interesting their ideas were!

The importance of leading authentically

This morning, Sophie Alexander, Head of Sustainability & Community Value and Hannah Gleave, Chief People and Sustainability Officer, at Ports of Jersey came to speak to the LEAP delegates about authenticity.

We are very grateful for their support and that of Ports of Jersey, who generously sponsored the LEAP workbook which all delegates received.

Pitching with purpose

LEAP delegates received a boost from Hannah Shellswell this afternoon.
She gave a talk about how to pitch with purpose, discussing how the delegates should talk to make the biggest impact, what to avoid and how to make an impression.

How do you deal with nerves?

For some of our delegates, the answer is jumping! Not long to go now before the Networking Event!

LEAPing across islands

This afternoon, we received a lovely visit from the Under 19 and Under 23 Antiguan cricket team.
As part of efforts to build more links between Jersey and Antigua & Barbuda, the Antiguan team will be playing against Jersey tomorrow and Friday.

LEAP is delighted to be part of these efforts. This week, four Antiguan delegates are spending the week at LEAP, along with Dr Greene, the Deputy Director for Education. We are also delighted to be welcoming the High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, OBE, on Thursday. She is returning to LEAP to speak at our awards ceremony, following her commencement speech in 2024.

Speaking up and leading change

Our LEAP delegates had the honour of hearing from Deputy Raluca Kovacs this afternoon. Deputy Kovacs is a member of the States Assembly in Jersey and was the first British-Romanian elected in a British Parliament. In 2024, she received the New Parliamentarian of the Year award from the Commonwealth Association.

Quiet Power, Loud Results

This morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming Charlotte Howe, Sector Lead for Arts, Culture and Heritage at the Government of Jersey for a talk about the five influential moves every future female leader should know about! Some great advice to remember ahead of the Networking Event and the pitches later this week.
