Toxic school culture versus positive nurturing school culture. Schools are changing, but the changes are patchy. You can have a school with a great open-minded all-inclusive culture one town over from schools that are burning books with conservative nutjobs. A lot of work to do and unfortunately, the main part of the war is against rampant arrogant ignorance.

Three weeks ago we went through a TRAUMATIC experience with our son’s school. And I am not using that word lightly. We pulled him out immediately when we heard and felt that he wasn’t wanted or honestly safe there. The child they were describing was not our son. Hitting, kicking, having potty accidents. Our son has always loved school. He adores going. On Monday he started at his new school. I was terrified. My son is so vulnerable. Here is a glimpse into his first week. Smiles. Activities. Inclusion. Laughter. Joy. Positivity. Parents, trust your gut. Always. It will never lead you astray. Even if it’s scary to speak out. You have to keep these kids safe. I am so thankful today for our new school, staff, and the team members who supported and helped us transition. We made it. He made it.
