Qual è la differenza tra creolo francese e francese? 21/02/2021

Qual è la differenza tra creolo francese e francese? Risposta di Caterina Bosa Il creolo è il derivato e il miscuglio delle lingue africane che gli schiavi parlavano al loro arrivo ai Caraibi (con le influenze del tempo, tra le altre, quella della lingua inglese), e del modo in cui questi percepivano il francese. Gli africani, come probabilmente t...

Comparatives: QUE o DE LO QUE?

I'm younger than you think ➡️ let's see if after the conjunction "than" we can add the pronoun "what" ➡️ I'm younger than what you think ✅ (it doesn't sound good, because English is super synthetic, but it makes sense). ➡️ Soy más joven de lo que piensas (de=than, lo que=what).

I'm younger than you ➡️let's try to add "what"➡️I'm younger than what you ➡️❌ doesn't make sense at all. In this case we will use QUE ➡️ soy más joven que tu (QUE in this case=THAN).

RULE: when in the English sentence after "than" we can add "what", the translation in Spanish will be DE LO QUE.
When in English we can't add "what", the translation will be with QUE alone.

Happy sunday 😘

Un piccolo ripasso non fa mai male!

SIMPLE PAST VS PRESENT PERFECT

SIMPLE PAST: action concluded in a specific moment in the past (Yesterday I met Laura).

PRESENT PERFECT:
1. Action that still lasts (I've lived here since 2018)
2. Action that took place in a period of time that is not over yet (I've seen her already twice this week)
3. Repeated action, with frequency adverbs (He's done the exam 3 times before passing it)
4. Action that took place in a time that is not known or important (I've read this book!)
5. The action is JUST concluded (I don't need a sofa, I've just bought one, thank you anyway!)

SINCE + DATE or STARTING MOMENT
FOR + DURATION (number of days, months, years...)

Yesterday I was analyzing the Spanish lonely form HAY (there is), wondering where that Y comes from.
All I could find was that it's a special form of HABER, with no plural, and the ways in which it's used.

And last night I DREAMT that that Y at the end is the same Y that we find in the French "IL Y A".
Even if in Spanish Y lost its meaning of THERE, Spanish might have used the same process and applied it to this unique case...

Opinions?

Este = masculine, esto = neutral (already weird).
Guess the plural of este? Estos. Why?
There's no logical explanation.

Esto (neutral) is only used to describe abstract and general situations (esto es un lío = this is a mess), and it doesn't have a plural form.

The same happens with the articles:
el = masculine, lo = neutral
Plural of el? Los. Aha.

Most of the neutral nouns in Spanish refer to abstract concepts:
Lo bueno = the good
Lo malo = the bad
Lo esencial es invisible a los ojos = the essential is invisible to the eyes.
These concepts have no plural, like in English.
And the determiner "lo" doesn't have a plural form neither.

So the weird masculines EL and ESTE can get rid of their not very masculine E and take back possession of the O in the plural, because the neutral doesn't need it!

Impara inglese, spagnolo o polacco, senza stress, su Facebook Messenger 😊
