A bit of history...
In 1100 the dark-skinned Madonna dell'Incoronata appeared in the countryside near Foggia: this was the first apparition of the Virgin Mary in the world.
The story says that a Count was blinded by a strong light while hunting and thought it was a fire. Then a peasant who was plowing arrived with two oxen and the Madonna dell'Incoronata appeared among the branches of a olive tree
