This is one of my favorite recipes that I started making one day and it’s become a comfort food staple in my house. I love lentils and the sausage gives it an extra delicious flavor. 🫘
I love it as almost a soup consistency so you can eat it with a spoon. Using ditalini pasta is the best, for this I didn’t have any so I broke up some linguine and I felt our Italian ancestors hitting me with a wooden spoon. 🥄

Making your own pasta sauce is so much easier than people think.

Whether you’re using fresh, ripe tomatoes or a simple can of crushed tomatoes, all you really need is olive oil, garlic, a pinch of salt, and a little patience. Let it simmer and let the flavors come together.
In Napoli it’s so easy to whip up your own with cherry tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and salt… we actually call it “sciuè sciuè”… which means fast fast in dialect.

And once you flip over a jar of store-bought sauce and see the long list of added sugars, preservatives, and unnecessary ingredients… you realize homemade just makes sense.

Simple ingredients. Real flavor. The way it’s meant to be ❤️🇮🇹

Italian last names translated into English can be funny in the sense of if someone in the USA had the last name CowEater that would be incredible 😂
But I love the history of it.

Italian last names (cognomi) often started as practical labels to distinguish people in growing communities, especially between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. One of the most common origins comes directly from a person’s job or social role. These are called cognomi professionali (occupational surnames), and they tell you a lot about what your ancestors likely did for a living.

Some common last names based on professions are:

And depending on where you’re from in Italy, the name even changes slightly…
North: often ends in -i (Ferrari)
South: often ends in -o (Ferraro)
