Thanks 🙏🏼 to all you lovely people who have written to me over the last 6 months asking if I’m ok…sorry for disappearing but I’ve been (unexpectedly) a bit busy growing a human being 😂

The start was difficult 🥵 so I had to prioritise: school & the speaking club, with the occasional shower in between! Then I got covid (again!) and at that point I was actually kind of glad to keep as much of my pregnancy as possible private and didn’t want to share anything publicly. I’m ready now, at least to let you know I’m happy, healthy and am looking forward to this new chapter in my life! 📖💙

If I had a € for every time I’ve heard “I want to improve my English”, I’d be posting this from a beach 🏝️ in Hawaii 🌺 with a mojito🍸in my hand!

👉🏼 It’s a totally understandable goal (I’ve lost count of the times I’ve said “I want to lose weight”) but you need to understand that it’s NOT a goal.

👉🏼 English isn’t a goal, it’s a MEANS to reaching a goal.

👉🏼 If you’ve ever said “I want to improve my English”, you need to:

✅ re-educate yourself to set yourself REAL goals

✅ create language habits that lead you to ACHIEVE your goals.

❌ If you do, 2023 will be yet another year in which you feel dissatisfied with you English.

👉🏼you can read & write in English, perhaps with some help from T9 or autocorrect - but thankfully 🙏🏼 they’re here to STAY

👉🏼You sometimes watch tv series & films in English

👉🏼You listen to English/American music.

🫵🏻BUT…when do you actually speak English❓❓❓❓

🫵🏻If your answer isn’t ‘regularly’ then put that grammar book on the shelf with all the other books you already had. THIS is where you need to be.

✅ Weekly conversation classes online, with feedback, give you the chance to speak naturally and COMMUNICATE with other people without the fear of being judged

✅ Monthly workshops online on a variety of different topics, from business English 📉 to quizzes! Practise your English, have fun 🥳 AND learn something new!

✅ Monthly social events.
These are simply ✨FABULOUS✨. I can’t stress this enough.
They allow you to really let your hair down and have endless amounts of fun 🤩 over a glass of wine 🍷and a plate of sushi 🍣 or whatever we’re eating that specific day. This is by far the part of the speaking club preferred by all members. It is the part where you will say ‘oh, I don’t need to speak English perfectly!’

Just how important IS your mindset 🧠 to your learning?

👉🏼 Well actually it’s CRUCIAL. As a teacher, I believe that nothing is more important.

👉🏼 Learning a language (or anything for that matter) requires a growth mindset. One that leads you to say “I f***ed up, but that’s OK, I’ll do better next time”. A mindset in which you believe in your ability to learn as something that requires effort and hard work, NOT something that you either can or can’t do.
