Antonio Lieto included in the 2026 Stanford List of Top 2% Scientists for the “career-long” impact (ENGLISH below):

EN: For the second consecutive year, the Director of CIIT Lab, Cognition Interaction and Intelligent Technologies Laboratory, prof. Antonio Lieto, has been included in Stanford University’s “Top 2% Scientists” list, based on Scopus/Elsevier data.
For the first time, he was ranked within the top 2% of his research field (i.e. Artificial Intelligence) in the “career-long” list, that takes into account the overall scientific impact considering the data of the entire career compared to the ones of the other researchers of the field.

Over the coming years at the CIIT Lab UNISA we'll be focused on an ambitious, interdisciplinary research project alongside top-tier researchers.

The PRIN project "Human and Artificial Intelligence in a Dynamic World: A Multidisciplinary Approach" was selected for funding with 1M Euros by the MUR (out of which 282K will be for the Università degli Studi di Salerno unit led by Prof. Antonio Lieto), ranking second in its category:https://www.mur.gov.it/sites/default/files/2026-10/SH4_Tabella_B_Progetti%20finanziati.pdf

This project will lead to a better understanding of what distinguishes humans from current artificial intelligence systems, while providing concrete insights into how to design better systems capable of going "beyond problem solving" (the title of a recent preprint: https://lnkd.in/e-fh9H5F).

In the coming months, open positions will be available at the CIIT Lab (Cognition, Interaction, and Intelligent Technologies Laboratory) focusing on cognitive architectures and computational models of cognition. As the saying goes: stay tuned!

📚 News: The preprint "Beyond problem solving: Adaptive reframing in human and artificial intelligence" by Valerio Capraro, Antonio Lieto, Francesco Rea, Giulio Sandini, Alessandra Sciutti, Vittorio Gallese and Walter Quattrociocchi is now out at: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/5xame_v1

Abstract:
Research on human and artificial intelligence has largely focused on problem solving: given a predefined problem, can an agent produce an effective solution? Yet many real-world challenges cannot be captured by a fixed problem representation. They require agents not only to solve problems, but also to recognize when the original problem representation has become inadequate and must be revised to reflect new evidence or changes in the problem itself. We argue that this capacity, termed adaptive reframing, constitutes a fundamental but under-researched dimension of intelligence. We propose a multidisciplinary framework for studying adaptive reframing across neuroscience, cognitive science, robotics, experimental economics and psychology, and complex systems. Adaptive reframing is defined as the capacity to revise the construction of a problem in response to changing evidence, causal structure, or social context. To support a systematic science of adaptive reframing, we introduce three complementary paradigms: the Dynamic Scenario Framing Task, the Perturbed Causal Model Task, and the Social-Affective Problem Setting Task. These paradigms provide a common framework for comparing humans and artificial agents in situations requiring problem reframing, and for building architecture-enhanced AI systems. We propose a shift from problem solving to adaptive problem framing as a central focus of intelligence research.
