L'Istituto Professionale per l'Industria e l'Artigianato del Marmo "P. Nasce a Carrara come “Scuola del Marmo” negli ultimi decenni dell'Ottocento (1881) su iniziativa di un consorzio di aziende private, artigiane o industriali con lo scopo di preparare maestranze da utilizzare in loco e in questa veste prosegue la sua attività con alterna fortuna per mezzo secolo. Al termine della Seconda guerra mondiale la scuola riprende il suo ruolo professionale e negli anni '50 vanta la preparazione del 90% delle forze lavorative e degli artigiani che ancora oggi costituiscono la base produttiva dell'industria lapidea locale. Lo Stato ne riconosce l'interesse pubblico e la trasforma nel 1954 in un Istituto Autonomo con personalità giuridica. La centralità di questa Scuola è il terreno fertile per far germogliare e fiorire in loco e nel mondo la cultura del marmo e le sue potenzialità intrinseche per una economia di progresso e d’avanguardia. L'Istituto Professionale per l'Industria e l'Artigianato del Marmo, Pietro Tacca è già oggi sulle guide turistiche della città per la sua gipsoteca, donazione da parte della Collezione Lazzerini, ed i suoi laboratori, meta di numerosi turisti. Oggi l'attenzione all'evoluzione del settore lapideo e alla tradizione artigianale, artistica e manifatturiera ne fanno un unicum nel panorama mondiale. The Professional Institute for Marble Industry and Craftsmanship "P. Tacca" in Carrara is an "atypical" institute, unique in the national territory. It was born in Carrara as the "Marble School" in the last decades of the nineteenth century (1881) on the initiative of a consortium of private, artisan or industrial companies with the aim of preparing workers to be used on site and in this capacity it continues its activity with alternating fortune for half a century. At the end of the Second World War the school resumed its professional role and in the 1950s it boasted the preparation of 90% of the workforce and artisans who still constitute the production base of the local stone industry today. The State recognized its public interest and transformed it in 1954 into an autonomous institute with legal personality. The centrality of this School is the fertile ground for the culture of marble and its intrinsic potential for a progressive and avant-garde economy to germinate and flourish locally and throughout the world. The Pietro Tacca Professional Institute for Marble Industry and Craftsmanship is already in the city's tourist guides today for its plaster cast gallery, donated by the Lazzerini Collection, and its laboratories, a destination for numerous tourists. Today, the attention to the evolution of the stone sector and to the artisan, artistic and manufacturing tradition make it unique in the world panorama.
