FAIR - Floating Artistic Interdisciplinary Research platform Floating Artistic Interdisciplinary Research (FAIR)

FAIR
Floating Artistic Interdisciplinary Research (FAIR) is an innovative project whose conceptual framework revolves around the idea of a quest that in one way or another defines art as their object, a kind of research that is most often recognized as "artistic research". FAIR is a platform – a medium, aimed at the development and promotion of artistic and theoretical work that has the charact

eristics of, or refers to "artistic research". Through its activities, the platform's intent is to establish and/or strengthen the interaction between institutions, research groups and individual artists in an international context. FAIR shares the principles and theoretical outlines set out in the “Vienna Declaration on Artistic Research”. The main activities of the platform are accomplished in the form of several-day seminars in various disciplines of art practice – film, photography, fine arts, media and digital arts, music and performing arts – and achieve its results both within these disciplines and often in a transdisciplinary environment. The activities are executed by the FAIR platform independently, by a partner organization or in cooperation with other organizations and individual artists or theorists. The sustainability, vitality and expediency of the project imply the establishment of long-term partnerships, which through periodic interactions with the platform will enable the settling and upgrading of an artistic product of high value. The conceptual framework of the project also includes forms of interaction such as exhibitions, performances, screenings, concerts, readings and more. The specific structural framework of the project, outlined as environment – vessel – participants – individual is a precondition itself for intensive and unpredictable interaction within the platform scope. FAIR's multilayered, dynamical and generative setting, is a source for an experience that is catalytic to engage in a creative research process, either shared or individual. The uniqueness of FAIR as an artistic research platform is determined by the wide extent of possible interactions induced through the facility it operates, a sailing vessel. The destined specifics of a sailing vessel to induce creativity, both as a subject itself as well as means, has been inspiring for the French philosopher Michel Foucault too, whose thoughts on the topic are exceptionally relevant:"...the boat is a floating piece of space, a place without a place, that exists by itself, that is closed in on itself and at the same time is given over to the infinity of the sea… but has been simultaneously the greatest reserve of the imagination." FAIR's main activity is carried out on the board of a sailing vessel but also depending on the requirements of a specific project, seminar or partner organization, projects are also executed onshore.

We had the privilege of enjoying a remarkable week of sailing and engaging in Artistic Research rehearsals with the creative crew, Vassilis Tsalidis, Robert Aloysius and Sabrina Habib, as we journeyed from Pelopones to the Pagasetic Gulf. This unique experience allowed us to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the sea while delving into the realm of artistic exploration and study.

The vividness of the experiences the FAIR - Floating Artistic Interdisciplinary Research platformplatform provides is a natural catalyst for a phenomenological approach, hence a means for artistic research on various themes, and a source for creativity and artistic knowledge. Although there is a high level of interaction within the platform, in each experience, the subjective perspective is pre-definitely integral, which is a major foundation for the notion of the singular nature of artistic knowledge.

The core of the Floating Artistic Interdisciplinary Research (FAIR) project is the development and operation of an artistic research platform, which is to provide a unique setting to generate artistic experience nurturing artistic research to gain artistic knowledge. This in itself is defined by the need for wider ground for the implementation and dissemination of Artistic Research as the most established approach to such knowledge. Artistic Research as a form of academic-artistic approach is gaining more and more legitimacy among academic institutions and coexists with the classical forms of art-related studies, but its recognition of wider social context is in its proto-mature state.

FAIR is a small-scale creative cultural project conceived and implemented by four partner organisations participating in this consortium: Zolith (Bulgaria); Out Of The Box Art Company (Greece); Asociación Libero (Spain); ProProgressione (Hungary).
The aim of the FAIR platform is to provide an environment for artistic research related to public discourse on issues of today and tomorrow, a way to rethink pan-European values and goals. Interdisciplinary artistic practices, mobility and cross-sectoral collaboration, phased by transnational teams of theorists, visual and performance artists, filmmakers, musicians and other artists, FAIR promotes international collaboration between artists, of different nationalities to share, interact, create and present.
Through FAIR's innovative approach, as a platform for Artistic Research, it will seek to stimulate an artistic perspective on another level on pressing issues of our modern world. FAIR is positioned as a platform that can provide a quality environment for the development of an artistic product, the issue of climate change and the environment and the delicate concept of the future of this planet, as well as the social aspects related to the status of social groups migration and other aspects of socially marginalised groups and issues related to equality and gender identity. It is in this perspective of dissemination and attention to the phenomena of our present that FAIR promotes a synergistic approach, realised through a series of seminars organised around the various topics through Artistic research.

"We are thrilled to introduce NARCIS, the Nies Artistic Research Center and Interaction Space, a project dedicated to breathing new life into the Old Olive Mill at the picturesque Nies Beach. Our mission is to establish this historic gem as a vibrant cultural hub, not only within our local community but also on the global stage."

We are excited to introduce NARCIS, the Nies Artistic Research Center and Interaction Space, a project dedicated to breathing new life into the Old Olive Mill at the picturesque Nies Beach. Our mission is to establish this historic gem as a vibrant cultural hub, not only within our local community but also on the global stage.

Our vision is to reinvigorate this historical site by transforming it into a dynamic multipurpose event and exhibition space. We're embarking on the journey of restoring two abandoned facilities within the Old Olive Mill to curate and host a diverse calendar of artistic and cultural activities.

In the upcoming months, you can look forward to a wide range of engaging events, including Artistic Research seminars, exhibitions, performances, concerts, readings, and even annual or biennial Architectural competitions. These activities will serve as a platform for interaction, collaboration, and the expression of artistic creativity.

NARCIS is not just about enriching our cultural landscape; it also holds immense potential for our local community and visitors alike. By fostering cultural exchange and development, this project will create valuable opportunities for people to connect, learn, and grow. Moreover, the positive impact of NARCIS will extend beyond the immediate cultural sphere, benefiting our community in various ways.

We are also excited to share that we are actively working on partnerships with esteemed organizations such as the FAIR platform, GIRES, Cinema Politica, academic institutions, and other international bodies to further enhance the project's impact.

Stay tuned for updates, events, and opportunities to get involved. Together, we will make history at the Old Olive Mill!
