i refuse to let you white-knuckle another award travel booking for your family in 2027💪

these tiny habits aren’t just about being calm. they’re about being able to think fast when the plan falls apart ..because it will.

i’ve been coaching families fly business class to asia with miles and points since 2025. and one thing is for sure… if your system doesn’t fit your real life, you won’t stick to it.

the parents in my world don’t panic when a flight gets moved or the seats disappear. they see it coming and they pivot. that’s not talent. it’s these habits, repeated until they’re automatic.

so if you want to get your family up front without living in award search tabs at 3am but still nothing , this is the place to be!

none of these are fancy. the logbook is honestly boring. but boring is what makes you quick later.

ps… if you’re new here, hi friend! i’m maria Maria Points The Way i teach families how to use points for seats on business class they actually want to asia pacific during school holidays.

📍comment ASIA and i’ll send you my asia pacific starter map so you know where to begin 🌏

📍 follow along for points tips that don’t need a spreadsheet degree : i promise i got you and you’re gonna love it here…

New does NOT mean better. This one can cost almost 2X the miles and punish you for canceling 🙈

except we didn't pay $5,000 for the rooms.

two rooms.
two nights.
Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, right on the Kamogawa River.
over $1,250 a night, each room.

points covered all of it.

then breakfast surprised me.
most Ritz-Carltons don't give complimentary breakfast, even to loyal members. this one does. i walked in ready to pay and they waved me off.

so the money we would've spent on the room went somewhere else.

it went to dinner. our anniversary dinner 👀 the one we'd normally talk ourselves out of.

we all went. kimonos and everything. eight seats at the counter, the chef right in front of us.

and here's the thing nobody tells you → that dinner earned points back. from the hotel, and from the credit card.

so we spent money and got points for the next trip.

this is why i don't put everything on one card. Marriott points go places my other points can't easily reach ( 🙊they nearly 40 airline partners.)

more places to earn means more places to fly. business class. all four of us.

points didn't buy us a presidential suite.

they bought us a memorable night we could all say yes to.

if you want to know where to start, i made a jumpstart map for families flying to Asia. comment ASIA and i'll send it

steal my 2-minute grocery run habit 🛒🌱🥦✈️

the next time you’re grocery shopping, filling up your gas tank, or grabbing takeout, use the right credit card and let it work for you.

seriously…that’s it.

those little swipes become the foundation for business class flights for your whole family months from now, without you doing anything extra.

here’s exactly what i’d swipe for:

🛒 groceries
⛽ gas
📱 phone bill
🍕 takeout
🎄 holiday gifts
🧋 boba tea
💇‍♀️ haircuts appointments
📦 online orders
☕ daily coffee
🏫 kids’ afterschool clubs
🧾 subscriptions you already pay for
🚗 insurance and everyday errands

ten swipes today = business class seats for your family later.

future you will be so glad you started so 📍save this for your next grocery run.

and check out my other posts on how families are flying business class with points…dozens of families have done this so trust me! this doesn’t have to be complicated.

follow for more ways real families fly business class together. 💛 I got you.

ok so i landed in Japan with ZERO plan.

literally zero. no itinerary.
just me feeling behind in my business
and needing somewhere to actually focus.

so i opened marriott. sorted by lowest rate.
(yes that is my strategy and i stand by it)

fairfields everywhere. $45 a night.
would've been perfect except… no car.
so that was a no.

then kagoshima popped up.
sheraton. volcano view. small city vibes.

i booked 12 nights before i could overthink it.

and here's where it gets fun :
no two nights were booked the same way.

- direct booking through a shopping portal
for a 10,000 point long stay bonus.
- airline portal for 10x earning.
- bank travel portal for a $100 credit.
- points nights.
- free night certificates.

every single booking had a reason.

woke up to sakurajima every morning
like i had a plan all along.

turned out the volcano knew exactly
what i needed.

please tell me i'm not the only one
making decisions like this 👇

you have the points.
you've done the research.
you still can't find seats for everyone.

these are the 4 things i beg you to do.

You found the award. Enough seats for everyone. So why can’t you hit “book”? 🫠

Because there’s one leg you don’t need and no one ever told you if skipping it will blow up the whole ticket.

If you’ve ever found the seats and then NOT booked because you weren’t sure skipping a leg was safe , this one’s for you.

It’s called the “no-show” rule.

Skip one flight, and the airline can cancel everything after it. Even your flight home.

It almost stranded us in Tokyo once, with the kids, over a leg that started down in Osaka.

Nobody warns families about this. You’re just supposed to know.

The good news: the EU just voted to ban airlines from doing it
— cancelling your way home just because you skipped an earlier leg. The catch? It only covers trips that touch Europe, and it doesn’t start until 2027.

And it’s more nuanced than the headlines say :some skips are safe ✅, one is a trap almost everyone gets wrong ⚠️, and some aren’t even related.

I mapped out all 5 situations in my latest blog post which are covered, which will burn you.

💬 Comment “SKIP” and I’ll send you the full breakdown.

And which one are YOU sitting on? I’m genuinely curious how many of you have the tricky one and don’t know it yet. 👀

🥱Boring stuff I did to stop paying $8,000
to fly my family of 4 to Asia every year
to visit family

Turns out… it was never some crazy secret.

It was the boring stuff I finally did 🥲

1. Anchored the trip around the actual
reason we go … family in HK, New Zealand and other part of the world. Trip planned itself after that.

2. Husband wanted direct flights only this time.
So I found the one airline that made
everyone happy from the States to Asia. Done.

3. Learned how to earn points for THAT
specific airline. Not just any points.

4. Set up all accounts in advance so when
seats opened I could move in minutes.
Not days.

5. Chose the return airline based on the
trip pattern. Not aimlessly flexible. There’s always a logical
choice if you know where to look.

6. Found a bonus running that week and month, and
used it. Saved thousands of miles.

Boring stuff. Every day. That’s it. ✈️

Whether you’re still paying cash or
you have points but don’t know where
to start for a family of 4, drop 👋 below and tell me
where you’re flying from.
