I’ve been sleeping on Eiskaffee and I’m officially making up for lost time.

Coffee + ice cream + a shady little spot + a Kindle = pretty much the perfect summer reading situation.

And The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez was the perfect book to go with it.

Apparently all my reading breaks need to come with a scoop of ice cream now.

Apparently, this crazy lady has decided she’s going to learn how to draw.

Do I know what I’m doing? Absolutely not.
Is it going great? Also no.
Is it going horribly? Surprisingly… also no.

JournalTok got me. I kept seeing all these beautiful journals filled with little sketches, watercolor, everyday moments, and perfectly imperfect pages, and somewhere along the way I thought, I want to do that.

So here we are. A sketchbook. A how-to-draw book. Some watercolor pencils. And a woman in her learning-something-new era.

The goal isn’t to become an artist. I just want to get good enough to capture little pieces of my life in my journal and actually enjoy being a beginner at something.

We’ll see how this goes.

This has been the most epic summer audiobook experience.

Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan feels like warm sunshine streaming through open windows. Sweet smelling summer rain drifting in on the breeze. Comfy clothes, nowhere you need to be, and a charcuterie board within arm’s reach.

It’s warm and summery and completely immersive. It’s the kind of story that somehow feels like an entire summer tucked between the covers of a book.

I’m not even finished yet, and I already don’t want it to end. This one is an absolute summer reading vibe.

This is how I spent my June.

I started Lonesome Dove on June 1st and turned the final page on June 30th. 866 pages of dusty trails, unforgettable characters, heartbreak, humor, and more cowboying than I’ve experienced in my entire reading life.

The funny thing is… I’d never seen the miniseries.

I vaguely remember my parents watching it when I was younger, but beyond that, I knew almost nothing. I made a decision before I started reading: no spoilers. I didn’t Google the characters. I didn’t look up the cast. I didn’t watch clips. I went in completely blind.

I’m so glad I did. Larry McMurtry didn’t just write a Western, he wrote one of the richest stories about friendship, loyalty, love, aging, adventure, and the quiet weight of ordinary lives I’ve ever read. Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call have firmly earned their place among my favorite literary characters, and I already know they’ll stay with me for a very long time.

When I closed the book, I finally watched the four-part miniseries and what a gift. The cast is phenomenal, and seeing these characters come to life after spending an entire month imagining them myself felt incredibly rewarding. It captured so much of what made the novel special while letting me revisit people I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to.
This wasn’t just a great book. It was an experience. One month with one remarkable story. This is one of those rare reads that quietly reshapes the landscape of your reading life.

If you’ve been putting Lonesome Dove off because of its size, let this be your sign. Saddle up. It’s worth every single page.

There’s something wonderfully unexpected about finding a little free library at the community pool.

A hot summer day, sunscreen in the air, and shelves full of stories waiting for their next reader. It feels like the perfect reminder that books belong everywhere, not just on nightstands and library shelves.

This heat wave has me alternating between pool days and page turns, and honestly, I can’t think of a better summer combination. Still nugging through Lonesome Dove, p325 of 866. It’s a great story and a good way to mosey through June!

Nothing like an American Western for an Italian vacation.

While everyone else is packing guidebooks and beach reads, I brought along Lonesome Dove. Somehow it feels perfectly fitting, wide-open skies, long journeys, unforgettable characters… just with a few more cobblestone streets and a lot less Texas.

Okay, May was a little chaotic over here, but somehow I managed to read a few deeply dysfunctional books that were absolutely divine.
Yesteryear was AMAZING although I desperately need someone to talk to about that ending because what in the absolute chaos was that?! Reading it right on the heels of The House of My Mother by Shari Franke ended up being an unintentionally well-timed pairing. The themes between the two hit harder than I expected.
Now I’m jumping into the with and finally reading Lonesome Dove. I’m only about 10–15 pages in, but already enjoying it so much. Caveat, I am fully a boomer at heart because I vividly remember watching the miniseries on TV.
I’m a little bummed because being overseas means the Zoom times don’t really work for me. I reached out to ask if there might be recordings or replays because I would LOVE to follow along with the annotation side of things. I’ve actually never annotated a book before (unless aggressively underlining emotional damage counts), and this feels like the perfect book to learn with.
So if anybody has tips for annotating/annotating-as-you-read especially with a “chonky book” like Lonesome Dove please send them my way. Sticky tabs? Color coding? Writing in margins? Favorite methods? Help a newbie out. ❤️📚🧳

Just finished by and I think is the perfect transition book. I’ve heard so many good things about this one, so I decided to jump in on my own and see what all the buzz is about, so far it has grabbed me quick!

Also, for the first time ever, I joined a book club on Fable for June! We’re reading Lonesome Dove with the hosted by . I actually found the group through Bookstagram, which feels very fitting somehow.

Lonesome Dove has been sitting on my “chonky books to finally tackle in 2026” list, so this feels like perfect timing. The club is also doing a couple of Zoom meetups, which honestly sounds so fun and a little out of my comfort zone in the best way.

I didn’t expect this one to be the book, but here we are.

I picked it up mostly because it’s huge and I figured it would keep me from needing to pack multiple books for the trip. Just something to pass the time.

Instead? It completely pulled me in.

I’m still kind of in awe at how much I don’t want to put it down. Like, this is not the kind of book I usually reach for, but something about the story, the pacing, the way it build man it just works.

There’s something really satisfying about being surprised by a book like this. The kind that quietly proves you wrong in the best way.

Safe to say, I found the diamond.
