Welcome Katia!
At the core of Katia Klose’s photographic work lies an exploration of reality, focusing on its sensual and poetic qualities. The documentary aspect intertwines with an inquiry into the hidden interconnections of human existence in dialogue with the environment and nature. In her photographic stagings, notions of the primordial are set in contrast to the contradictions of contemporary ways of life.

In her current project Between Visibility and Disappearance – Photographic Studies of the Ocean’s Dysphotic Zone she undertakes an artistic investigation of the ocean’s low-light region, where visibility becomes unstable and speculative. The residency in Ísafjördur – a place of shifting boundaries between land and sea, light and fog – provides an ideal setting for this exploration.

Katia Klose, born in 1972 in Berlin East, lives and works as a freelance artist, lecturer, image editor, and photographer in Leipzig/Germany.

We want your shopping lists!

Artist in residence Iza Jadach is working on a project where she turns used shopping and to-do lists into clay tablets. Once fired, the clay tablet will become a ceramic artifact—a permanent record of an everyday moment, preserved for future generations.

Iza will be at Netto today (Tuesday 14.07 from 10 am till 6 pm) collecting the lists. If you make your lists on your phone, you can rewrite it on paper provided. No translations, just write in your own language as you normally would!

Iza is a sculptor, ceramist, born in Szczecin, Poland, received BFA degree in ceramics from Department of Art at University of Washington in Seattle in 1999, MFA in ceramics at the University of California Los Angeles in 2002. She moved back to Szczecin in 2008 where she has been living since. She participated in art exhibitions in Poland and abroad, in artist residencies in Japan, Germany and
India. She makes sculptures, mostly figurative, often using her own body as a model, to record memory of a body and memory of a space.

Currently, she is investigating childish imagination and play. Inspired by her work in a playschool, she is connecting to her childish curiosity through toys, both man-made and nature-made.
Her work routine right now consists of making up stories in her head, playing with jumping rope, plastic buckets, stones, shells and spinning words around it all.

This is a collaborative project with sound artists, weaving together music and navigation. In a multimedia format, Luz María will speak about her graphic score, developed based on the lighthouses along the Peruvian coast on the Pacific Ocean, and will share a listening session of sound pieces created by Peruvian experimental musicians. Furthermore, Polish musician Piotr Karczmarek, based in Ísafjörður, will perform his own version of Luz Maria’s score to close the evening.
IS:
Luz María Bedoya, listakona frá Perú sem dvelur um þessar mundir í gestavinnustofum ArtsIceland, mun kynna verk sitt „All the Lighthouses of the Peruvian Coast“ fyrir almenningi á Ísafirði.
