We are saddened to hear the news of the passing of one of the greatest doctors of this nation, Dr Saeb Sedeeq Aziz, Director of Clinical Department at the School of Medicine, University of Kurdistan Hewlêr.
As students of SoM-UKH, we send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Saeb.
We ask the Almighty to have mercy on him and give patience to his family.

“The best way of prevention is by raising awareness!” On Wednesday, November 13, Lara Aram presented a seminar about breast cancer and it’s prevention.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in females, and the second most common in general. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early and regular screening, as well as the risk factors.

In January 2019, Dr Bahram Resul was welcomed into the University of Kurdistan-Hewlêr as the new Dean for the School of Medicine(SoM).
Dr Resul, educated both in Uppsala University (Sweden) and University of Baghdad, is an outstanding academic and practitioner in the area of medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and ophthalmology. He is the inventor of several patents, including latanoprost (Xalatan) that is used for the treatment of Glaucoma and approved by the U.S.’s FDA in 1996. He is the recipient of several major prizes, including the Swedish Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Outstanding Contribution in Medicinal Chemistry in 2004, the Hungarian Academy of Science for Outstanding Contribution in Medicinal Chemistry in 1998, and the Williame-Upjohn US Prize in Recognition of Special Accomplishment in 1997.
He also founded AWAMEDICA Ltd, the major drug manufacturing company in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and was the CEO of the company from 2006 to 2018.

UKH is introducing a unique Medical Education programme which trains the student in addition to the mainstream medical education, the research, and clinical evidence based training and education to graduate the doctors of tomorrow.
The MBBS programme of the School of Medicine is a 6-year programme that consists of two phases, each comprises of six semesters.
* Phase 1 (3 years): Pre-Clinical Sciences.
* Phase 2 (3 years): Clinical Sciences
Although admissions for the academic year 2019-2020 have ended, the admission criteria each year for the school is as follows:
1. General High School Average 90% and above.
2. Minimum High School Score of 80% in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
3. Advanced English Language Capabilities. PTE score of 54; IELTS 6.0; ibt-TOEFL 82 prior to admission
4. Interview with a panel of academic staff.
