Join AUIS-SPE Student Chapter for the second-panel discussion on “Women in Energy”. This panel discussion is more special because we have two incredible and successful AUIS Alumni! We will discuss the success stories of two Kurdish females and how they became prominent in their career as well as their experience and challenges. They will talk about the essential skills needed and decisions they had to make to achieve their goals. Also, they will give the participants their advice on how to make their own as future engineers.

On February 19th,2022, the AUIS-SPE student chapter arranged a series of presentations for children, from grades four, five, and six, in one of the local schools. The presentations aimed to teach children how to save the environment since environmental awareness is one of the main priorities in our chapter. The presentations included what is the environment, what are the types of pollution, and how to save the environment. Some information about renewable energy was also given to the children to motivate them to become future energy engineers and promote green energy in the region to save the environment and natural resources.

Special thanks to the school administrators and teachers for their warm welcome. Also, thanks to both Lano Hunar and Zhila Shwan for making and performing the presentations.

On the 9th of October, 2021, AUIS-SPE members visited the Mass Iraq for Steel and Iron Industry located in Bazyan, Sulaimani. The plant is considered as one of the biggest projects in Kurdistan and Iraq. It consists of a smelter for pallet production, continuous casting machines (CCM), rolling mill for enforcement rebar production, and a factory for the production of industrial steel of small and medium sections.

The field trip has been useful in different ways for the students. The students have been exposed to some Health and Safety (HSE) processes, and how the factory operates. It is also essential to see in real life how much energy is consumed to reach the operating conditions of the process. They have also been introduced to the efficiency of the process in terms of energy consumption and how to provide better efficiencies with the same amount of energy addition.

We would like to give our sincere thanks and acknowledgement to Mass Iraq for Steel and Iron Industry for helping and guiding us through providing an insightful and informative field trip.

On Saturday, September 25th, we managed another engineering field trip to another solar project by Bazyan Solar Company in Sulaimani. The solar system provides 100% of the whole firm’s electricity consumption from solar energy and also adds the extra amount to the national grid.

This trip has been effective to enhance the students’ knowledge regarding the solar system and its set up. It has also been important to familiarize the effects of green energy on the environment and the mitigation of the greenhouse gas emissions.

We would really appreciate Mr. Hardy for his efforts and time.
