The Objectives and Principles:

Our aim is to take EMU further ahead as the leading academic institution in the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Mediterranean. The objectives and principles of EMU while proceeding in this direction are as follows:

To train the students in becoming honest, innovative and professionally responsible individuals with distinct personalities who are capable of critical thinking and able to contribute to the society on scientific matters.
To develop cultural diversity, intercultural competence, and empathy within the University and in the society;
To contribute to the welfare of the society and peace in the region and the world;
To assume a pioneering role in the economic, social and cultural development of the country by giving highest priority to quality in areas of academic freedom, education and research;
To become a democratic, transparent and autonomous institution;
To present certification programs more efficiently and in a more widespread manner to the society and institutions by means of continuous education or distance education;
To formulate university-community collaboration by pulling the attention of the entire community through activities like conferences, seminars, working groups and the like;
To prepare scientific research and developmental projects by considering the primary needs of the society and the country from the standpoint of development and growth;
To attach significance to collaboration of university-industry-institution-organization in scientific and technological research activities;
To accelerate the scientific and technological innovations and developments.

Eastern Mediterranean University Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu expressed his pleasure in the increasing popularity of International Futsal Cup of Nation Tournament amongst students. Highlighting the importance EMU gives to social and sports related activities along with academic issues, Konnolu invited all EMU staff and students as well as the local community to the tournament.

Eastern Mediterranean University library endeavors to constantly improve its performance as an active supporter and provider for the university’s effective, innovative, and student-centered approach to education, and as an indispensable element in the academic process based on this approach. In keeping with its significant role in both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of scientific research, our library strives to create all the necessary facilities and opportunities for all students and members of academic staff, in the process of conducting research and accessing information. Preparing students not only for their profession, but also for life is part of the university’s objectives. Within this framework, we, as the library, do our utmost in ensuring that our students can locate all types of data in a systematic environment, in order to contribute to the education of sensitive young people who have learned how to learn and are keen to research and are capable of generating knowledge based on acquired knowledge.

Consistent with its conviction that scientific development is a universal gain, our library actively collaborates with institutions of information sources, and shares its own resources with the world insofar as circumstances allow. Cooperation makes it possible to promote our university’s publications throughout the rest of the world while simultaneously making it easier to obtain information available from other sources.

With a view to increase information literacy and to develop the habit of lifelong learning in our society, our collection is available not only to the EMU community, but also to the larger public.

Our library also embraces the principle of ‘aiming for the peak of quality’ and our overall objective is to become one of the best sources of information in the country and the region.

Eastern Mediterranean University Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty started offering education at the beginning of the 2012-2013 Academic Year.

The fundamental mission of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty for its graduates is to demonstrate the highest level of medical knowledge and skills in line with the most advanced international standards, to have a good understanding of global health issues, to strive to improve the life quality of individuals and the population to the highest possible level through delivery of exemplary health care provision, to be up to date with global developments in health and able to adopt the most up to date technology in their everyday medical practice and to demonstrate outstanding skills as highly qualified doctors, not just through clinical skills but also through outstanding knowledge and skills in professionalism, ethics , medical leadership, effective communication and teamwork.

Our vision is to adopt the approach for the most up to date educational standards and continuous learning in delivering medical education at the highest standards which will always be based on the principles of evidence based medicine, research and a student centered approach. We see our future as a strong faculty with a robust identity and culture, delivering high standards in medicine, gaining acknowledgement locally and internationally for our high standards and attracting students and teaching staff of highest abilities.

The first three years of the medicine studies are completed at Eastern Mediterranean University. The remaining three years of the studies take place at UTEAK (National Medicine Education Accreditation Board) accredited Marmara University Medicine Faculty. Turkish language courses are offered to international students within the first three years.

The medium of instruction is English. During the first three years of core preclinical training, the curriculum encompasses student-centered training in basic sciences, ethics, application of evidence based medicine principles, development of professional skills as well as special study modules on human sciences, behavioral science, philosophy, natural science, social sciences, communication skills, arts and IT classes of their choice. During the fourth and fifth years, students are provided with applied practices such as the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. During their final year, students take an active role in the treatment of diseases under the supervision of their instructors. Students may also benefit from one of the elective courses on “family medicine” designed with a perspective of family medicine applications in the U.K., Germany and Norway.

Our purpose is to train highly qualified doctors setting examples with their strong commitment for good medical practices as well as their understanding of global and local health issues, problem solution skills for public health issues, commitment in following the latest developments in medicine, contributions to the advancement of the medicine as a science by adopting the latest technology to every day practices and their highest ethical and analytical standards.

The faculty boasts an educational environment shaped in accordance with the requirements of the student-centered education, research and training labs equipped with latest technological features, an anatomy laboratory equipped with advanced individual 3D viewing technology supported with cadaveric material, dissection tables and models identical to each human organ. The faculty also houses student recreational facilities such as computer and reading rooms as well as a cafeteria.

Within the framework of the “Introduction to Clinical Application Program” delivered during the first three years of the program, students benefit from multidisciplinary research opportunities, carry out research and statistical analysis and at the end of their research are given the opportunity to present their scientific studies in MASCO, the international student congress organised by Marmara University. Students may also attend their internship in hospitals or academic programs supported by EU, WHO and may also benefit from exchange student programs with contracted universities, inland and abroad.

Eastern Mediterranean University Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty curriculum is identical to and is carried out in collaboration with Marmara University’s Medicine Faculty. At the end of their studies, graduates receive a Turkish Higher Education Board (YÖK) accredited undergraduate medicine diploma which will bear the joint signature of both faculties. Our graduates may continue their studies in the PhD program and become academicians.

The University of Economy offers students different fields to study. At our Bydgoszcz Main Campus are the Academic Cultural Area and the Museum of Photography. These institutions provide the ability to develop skills and begin an the artistic life. Throught our Rewital Fitness and Nutrition Centre we actively promote healthy lifestyles. First rate professional medical treatment is provided by the Academic Medical Centre.
