A small school operating from a modest home in Naharlagun has brought national recognition to Arunachal Pradesh for its unwavering commitment to children with special needs.
April Blossom Foundation School, located at Lekhi Village in Naharlagun, has been conferred the 'Best Special School' award at the 37th SA Indian School Awards 2026, held in New Delhi on June 30. The prestigious honour was presented by legendary boxer and former Rajya Sabha member Mary Kom, recognising the institution's outstanding contribution to inclusive education and child development.
For the past five years, the foundation has been providing free education and specialised therapeutic interventions to children with special needs, creating opportunities for them to learn, grow and become independent. Despite limited resources, the school has emerged as a beacon of hope for families seeking quality care and education for children with developmental challenges.
One of the school's most inspiring achievements has been its early intervention programme for children with autism. Through personalised therapy and dedicated support, several children have made remarkable progress and successfully transitioned into mainstream schools, reflecting the effectiveness of the foundation's holistic approach.
Behind the initiative is Binde Jini, who converted her own home into a school to ensure that children with special needs have access to education and therapy free of cost. Her vision and commitment have transformed countless lives, offering not just education but renewed hope to families across the region.
Driven purely by a spirit of community service, April Blossom Foundation continues to provide quality care, therapy and education without charging beneficiaries, proving that compassion and determination can create lasting change.
