Vijayawada Model United Nations

Vijayawada Model United Nations A Model United Nations (MUN) is a meeting where students authentically simulate negotiations of specific committees and organs of the United Nations.

Participants choose a country and research their chosen country's position regarding a specific topic. After preparation, they step into the shoes of diplomats and represent this country in a committee. They debate, convince, bring forward new solutions and solve a world conflict with their own resolution. Why participate at MUNs? Thousands of students actively take part in MUNs, debating either a

t training sessions at clubs or at international conferences that are organized all over the world. The motivation for participation in MUNs is simple, yet very convincing:

1)improve your negotiation and public speaking skills
2)become a better team-worker and leader
3)get an insight into an UN diplomat's work
4)make practical use of your political knowledge
5)meet and stay in touch with students from all around the world. Come be a part of Vijayawada's first international event.

Hey future leaders ,

There are 2 kinds of people - Leaders and those who lead. Now, they might sound similar but I'm afraid they are not. Leaders , are often, people in authority. People follow them because they have to. They are the rule makers and tend to make u believe what they believe. On the contrary, "People who lead" are the ones who do it out of their passion. You follow them because you want to, not because you have to. Their purpose becomes your purpose. You follow them for your ownself and this is exactly our objective.
WE ARE NOT LEADERS... We are here to lead a Change.. to lead, what I believe, can be the greatest activity in not just Vijayawada but Andhra Pradesh. And maybe, eventually, India !

We have moved from college boundaries to a city to bring out the Leader in you. After lots of planning and budget tasking, we present Vijayawada Model United Nations. A simulation that can be a world changing experience for you.

Trust me guys, It's a scary experience to take a big leap but isn't life all about challenges ? Isn't it more about how you bounce back ? We are glad to announce that this won't only be the first in Vijayawada, it's growing big. We will be setting National records as well and I look forward to a great show. Let the show begin !

Cheers !

Why Model United Nations?

We believe Model United Nations is the single best activity for preparing future world leaders. Model UN introduces young people to the world’s most biggest problems in peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development — and inspires them to find global solutions. Model UN gives students a chance to learn about different countries, foreign policies, and most importantly to critically think about issues from multiple perspectives and points of view different than their own.

We believe that Model UN teaches students much needed 21st century skills. Students learn how to research, write, speak, and negotiate. Students get the opportunity to lead their peers and organize large-scale conferences. These are skills that colleges look for and that employers value. But most importantly, these are skills that students will use throughout their lives as they grow into positions of leadership. We believe that the students who do MUN today will change the world one day.

VJMUN'16 aims at nurturing these leadership qualities and to promote diplomacy . We promise you a productive debate that will not just teach you to lead but to grow as you lead !

5 Reasons to Join the Model United Nations :

1)Meet students from all over the world - A Model UN conference is a concentration of different nationalities in the same place for a few days. This contact with different perspectives and settings is very useful to help you grow at a personal level and expand your horizons.

2) Overcome your fear of public speaking
Being a diplomatic initiative, the MUN is a great setting where people can try to face their fear of public speaking. This chance to overcome a fear of public speaking is great because it supports delegates’ personal growth and triggers self-confidence. Indeed, every delegate remembers his or her first speech, the frightening sensation in the stomach, but also the satisfaction and the congratulations received at the end.

3) Become acquainted with diplomacy and international issues
Model UN conferences are diplomatic simulations. Respect and cooperation are the fundamentals of the debate. This setting allows every participant to understand how existing international bodies work and the contribution they themselves can make to help solve issues and challenges that affect our planet today.

4)Enhance your leadership skills
In order to work, the debate requires different people to fill different roles. The chairperson’s challenge is to moderate the debate to make it as much productive as possible. This means developing strong leadership skills, in order to make sure every country speaks and that the debate is fruitful and successful.

5) Enjoy yourself!
Every MUN conference organizes social events, which are an opportunity to have a good time with the people you’ve met. Traditionally, the night before the closing ceremonies of the MUN there is a fantastic disco party. It can also happen that late-arriving delegates are asked to dance in front of the whole committee. This performance normally brings a lot of enthusiasm and provides a good base for a successful debate.

Since, quite long, a lot of people have been asking us -"What is Vijayawada MUN ? What is the goal of having an MUN ? How will it even help us ?" So we started looking for answers. We wanted diverse opinions from experienced MUNners ! We'd like to share one of the favourite responses we've received. All those who are confused and inquisitive about what Model United Nations is all about.. Don't worry and relax back. We are coming up with answers that will not just clear your doubts , but will motivate you to be an informed global citizen !

Our favourite response -

MUN is more than an academic simulation, and the impact is strong, just subtle.
To help make my point, as I've done so many times with my team, let me tell you what I've told them:
We meet every Friday from 1pm-4:30pm, and we hangout afterwards, talking, researching, helping each other out. We spend 8 or more hours on research every week in addition to our homework, jobs, and other responsibilities. We're expanding our minds with so much knowledge. We're learning about things no one on this campus has even heard of. We go to conferences (local ones) and spend 10 or more hours discussing some of the world's problems, and trying to come up with solutions to those problems. We had the opportunity to travel to conferences in New York, D.C., Lille, Olomouc and so many other places. We are doing all of this even though we're barely 20 years old. Just think about the 10,000 other students at our campus. Think about the thousands of young people in our city, the millions in our country, and then back to the 10 of us. We 10 are doing all of this, essentially something that has no physical value and that actually consumes our life because we want to. We want to learn about our countries; we want to learn about our topics; we want to learn about the world, its problems, and its answers to many of those problems, and we want to learn to become better people so that someday we can be those people who are working hard every day to make our world a better place to live for all.
We spend so much time learning about our world and how to be better people. Of course it has an impact! On us, our friends and families, our school, world and our lives. This world needs more educated people who know how to work well with others, understand other opinions, ideas and cultures, and take action to make it a better place. That's what's happening to each and every one of you when you choose to do this "simulation". And that's the important part: you are choosing to do this. No one's forcing you, you voluntarily want to. What could be better for the world that a bunch of young people who want and are choosing to make it better?
It's hard to see this because we are young and we don't really know what the future holds, but trust me, all of this experience with MUN will have an impact in your life an on this world; this is just the beginning. :- )

They say "Failure is a stepping stone to success." We have lived it and seen this cliche personify . A lot of hurdles and hindrances stand bold ahead but as long as we are determined and self motivated, all we've got for life is "Try me!" Vijayawada MUN will be one of it's kind and we can't wait to push, work and grow . This is how we started but we are not giving up. Wait for the sequel to know more !
