Eco-Club of Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar under “MY COLLEGE MY PRIDE “organized an awareness programme on “Addressing Air pollution issues by Leaf fall” on December 6th 2022. Eco-squads and student volunteers participated along with the members of Ecoclub in this programme. During this programme Prof. Summera Shafi, Convener Ecoclub delivered an awareness lecture on Air pollution issues by leaf fall burning. In her lecture she informed the student’s that leaf litter burning produces lot of smoke, dust and ash which remains suspended in the air for a greater duration of time as no mixing of air occurs at this period of time due to low temperatures creating fog which leads to drop in visibility. The poor visibility is a major cause of accidents at this time of the year. Also air pollution is a cause of various respiratory troubles. She informed the students that we should pledge not to burn this resource rather it can be turned into wealth by properly decomposing the leaf litter. The Eco squads, student volunteers and members collected the large volume of leaf litter in green bins for decomposition which later on can be used as manure. The activity was aimed to inform the students about sustainable practices of waste management.
