PANKH Foundation

PANKH Foundation PANKH is dedicated to empowering the girl child and women. Our focus is to provide educational and skill building support to them.

We work with families of weavers located in and around Pochampally village (Andhra Pradesh) known for its beautiful and complex Ikkat weaves. Pushed into the vortex of unemployment, debt and starvation, traditional handloom weavers are fighting for survival.

Usha stays in Valigonda, a Mandal in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Presently she is studying in class 4 in Montessori High School. Her mother, Shobha Rani, is a weaver who works hard at creating Ikkat sarees on her loom at home. Her sister, Hari Latha, takes in tailoring work at home.
Usha's family has seen difficult times as her father, Venkatesh, committed su***de in January 2005 when Usha was barely a year old.
Since July 2012, Pankh Foundation has been supporting Usha by funding her education. She is a bright and talkative child who loves going to school and is doing very well academically.
