Hydraulic snubbers play a critical role in protecting piping systems during dynamic events such as water hammer, seismic activity, or sudden turbine trips. However, like any mechanical device, their performance can deteriorate over time if not periodically inspected and maintained.

During a recent site assessment, our team observed the following conditions on an in-service hydraulic snubber:

1️⃣ Indications of Oil Seal Leakage
Visible traces of hydraulic fluid along the snubber body may indicate oil seal deterioration. Hydraulic fluid leakage can reduce the snubber's damping performance and should be investigated during maintenance.

2️⃣ Significant External Corrosion
Noticeable surface corrosion and coating deterioration were observed on the snubber casing. If left unaddressed, such degradation may affect the long-term structural integrity and reliability of the equipment.

⚠️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤
Depending on the failure mode, a deteriorated hydraulic snubber may restrict normal thermal movement or may not provide the required restraint during a dynamic event, potentially transferring excessive dynamic loads to the connected piping system and supporting equipment.
