The main aim of ELECTRUM is to inculcate the technical interest in students. It is platform where the students can learn beyond their curriculum. To achieve this, we organize various technical events, seminars, group discussion and Guest lectures on regular basis. This page is meant to update students about all the various activities that are currently being pursued in Northern India Engineering College, under the Banner of ELECTRUM

Holi is an ancient and popular Hindu religious festival. It is celebrated predominantly in India. It symbolizes the destruction of evil and victory of good. It also marks the end of winters and beginning of the spring. It is held on last full moon day of phalgun month according to lunar Hindu calendar. This festival of colors replenishes love in society and introduces new colors in our lives. The celebrations start on the penultimate night before Holi starts with Holika Dahan, when people gather and perform rituals in front of a bonfire to burn their internal evil. A day after Holika Dahan begins the Rangwali Holi. On this day, people enjoy to the fullest by throwing colors on one another—(a gesture that symbolises unity.)

Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the globe. Homemade traditional plum cakes and muffins are the special treats on Christmas. ‘Santa Claus’, dressed in a fluffy red and white robe, greets people with hugs and gifts.
Christmas inspires faith in God and in his goodness that is very real but not always visible.

Electrum Adgitm wishes everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS with all the warmth, happiness and positive vibes.

On 11th October, a Virtual Lab workshop was organised by Electrum in association with IIT Delhi.

Virtual lab is a pan India initiative by IIT Delhi alumnus. Two such alumini conducted the workshop for all first year students who enrolled to learn what a Virtual Lab is and how it can simplify the learning process via labs.

Virtual lab acts as an aid to the practical labs that every student perseveres throughout his learning career. Interactive learning proves to be far more effective than the conventional methods used in the current curriculum. AICTE has approved Virtual Labs to be a great addition in the learning process and to be added into the curriculum of various universities in coming years.

With the contribution of universities and colleges from all over India , Virtual lab proves to be an all in one platform for various practical projects and reference material for an interactive learning experience.

The workshop was conducted in two successful sessions which was followed by a questionnaire where the students took active participation and were awarded trophies for the top performers as well as certificates to the participating candidates.

The collective effort of the members of Electrum, the Faculty of EEE and the Enthusiastic First year students made this event a roaring success.

Energy is the need of the hour.

Our current scenario forces us to consume large amounts of energy and resources to derive them from. Conventional resources, however useful they are, are limited. We need to have resources that could be regenerated and eventually reduce the stress on the current conventional energy banks.

Here's a solution: Geothermal Energy

It is thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth. Thermal energy is the energy that determines the temperature of matter. The geothermal energy of the Earth's crust originates from the original formation of the planet and from radioactive decay of materials.

With it's use ranging from geyesers and hot springs it has come a long way. Now better known for electricity generation. Worldwide, 11,700 megawatts (MW) of geothermal power was available in 2013. An additional 28 gigawatts of direct geothermal heating capacity is installed for district heating, space heating, spas, industrial processes, desalination and agricultural applications as of 2010.

Geothermal power is also considered to be sustainable thanks to its power to sustain the Earth's intricate ecosystems. By using geothermal sources of energy present generations of humans will not endanger the capability of future generations to use their own resources to the same amount that those energy sources are presently used.

So let's achieve this fairly important milestone by playing our part.

Electrum wishes everyone HAPPY DUSSEHRA.

The wind is a clean, free, and readily available renewable energy source. Each day, around the world, wind turbines are capturing the wind’s power and converting it to electricity. It is usually captured through wind mills spread across huge wind farms. It does not release harmful gases into the atmosphere unlike the fossil fuels and can be easily replenished in future. India ranks 4th on the list of World's largest installed capacity in wind power after China, U.S. and Germany.
India has a wind power potential of 20,000 MW and about 85 sites, with a potential of 4500 MW have been identified in the country. There is very large scope in India for this form of energy as it is readily available without any costs and emits greenhouse gas emissions. Being a developing country, it will serve as a great source of energy generation for the economy and huge population.

Nuclear power is the fifth-largest source of electricity in India.
It originates from the splitting of uranium atoms – a process called fission. This generates heat to produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to generate electricity. Because nuclear power plants do not burn fuel, they do not produce greenhouse gas emissions.
It is one of the most sought alternative sources of energy.
Nuclear plants can provide the ‘base load’ — they give a steady stream of electricity day and night, just like coal or gas plants. Wind and solar power plants produce energy much cheaper, but their power supply is irregular. With gas not available and coal on its way out due to reasons of cost and global warming concerns, nuclear is sometimes regarded as the saviour.
In India nuclear energy's contribution is very less significant as it only contributes 3.4% of the total energy production.
India has only 7 nuclear power plants whereas in USA the number reaches 65-70.
A significant expansion of nuclear power can both enable the connectivity of millions of Indians who currently lack access to the power grid and help it contribute to global efforts to tackle climate change by curbing its total carbon emissions.

2019 counts the 150th birth anniversary of our beloved Father of the Nation 'Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi'. He became analogous with non-violent resistance or Ahimsa and Satyagrah which eventually led to India’s independence from the British Raj or the Crown rule.
Bapu ‘s teachings are an epitome of human kindness which should be followed and propagated by all of us.

ELECTRUM wishes everyone
HAPPY GANDHI JAYANTI. Like the country, let's clean the negativity in our society and walk on Gandhi ji's footsteps for a better nation.
