At Sahaj, we try to live by these words everyday. Be it in play, in the consciously held space for every emotion and feeling a child might experience, in the democratic making-of-rules or in the respect we give each of our children to decide what and how they want to learn.
And so it with tremendous gratitude and (so much excitement!) we would like to share with you that A.S. Neill’s Summerhill School shared our work (and play!) on social media.

By the way, during these times of lockdown and isolations , it is also a great idea for you to create a slide like this with a long piece of cardboard (punched and tied to the railing) at your home stairs :)

Let children play !

The main goal of kindergarten, which about 75% of three- to five-year-olds attend, according to the Finnish educational expert Pasi Sahlberg, is “not to prepare children for school academically, but to make sure they are happy and responsible individuals”.

While approaches may differ, the importance of free time to play is increasingly being recognised

There are various ways of teaching children the importance of being kind, compassionate, courageous, empathetic and fair. The common accepted practice seems to be to narrate heroic stories or offer long explanations. However, we could instead attempt a far more effective method of trusting children and letting them observe our words and actions as they grow up.

As adults, we need to ask ourselves, should we teach children to be "good people" or could we support children to draw on their own potential?

What if we could ask the ‘Father of our nation’, as well as the advocate of a revolutionary education philosophy, Nai Taleem, Mahatma Gandhi on how could we teach children to be fair? How could we teach children to be courageous?

I suspect with reasonable conviction, Gandhiji would have perhaps advised us: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Most of us as responsible citizens (including me) wish to see a world where no living being is ever lynched by an angry crowd.
