📍 PixelFlix: Crafting Visual Magic

Match Move is a VFX technique used to track the movement of a real camera in a live-action shot and recreate that same movement inside 3D software.

👉 Why we use Match Move?

To add 3D objects or CG elements into real footage.

To make sure the CG fits perfectly with the camera’s motion.

To maintain realism — shadows, lighting, and perspective must match.

👉 What Match Move includes:

Camera Tracking (Solving the camera movement).

Object Tracking (Tracking a specific object’s movement).

Body Tracking (Tracking human motion, sometimes used with mocap).

Set Reconstruction (Recreating basic 3D geometry of the real set).

3DEqualizer (3DE)

NukeX

Blender

After Effects (Mocha for planar tracking)

👉 Example:

If a director wants to add a 3D robot into a street shot, you need match move to:

1. Track the camera motion.

2. Rebuild the ground plane & perspective.

3. Place the robot in the correct position.

4. Render CG that moves exactly like the real shot. #
