AVANASHI ESWARER TEMPLE
Thevaram is a beautiful village with a population of 20000 people and situated in Uthamapalayam Taluk in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. Both coconut and Tapioca are cultivated here; many people have Cardamom estate in Kerala as the village is on the footsteps of the Western Ghats and near Kerala. Merchants here purchase cardamom in Kerala, clean it, grade it and send it to a
ll over India and abroad. Here in this village there is an ancient Siva temple of about 500 years old fully constructed with stones. It has got many sculptures and inscriptions but in a dilapidated condition. Arulmighu Avanashi Eswarer is the name of the swamy and Arulmigu Perungarunai Nayagi Amman is the name of the Amman (Mother Goddess). This temple, the symbol of our cultural, architectural and historical heritage is on the bank of Chinnadevikulam (Lake) and verge of extinction. This temple is without pooja for the past 60 years. It is the only ancient common temple for all communities in the village
No other temple is in the name of Avanashi Eswarer in Tamilnadu except the one in Avanashi in Coimbatore District. To renovate this stone temple, the Stone has to be fully removed and new stones to be replaced for the broken one. Apart from renovation of the swamy’s stone temple, a new Gopuram has to be built for swamy sannadhi (shrine) and A separate Amman sannadhi (shrine) also has to be built. For this Thiruppani work (temple renovation) the sthapathy has roughly estimated the cost as Rs.60/- Lacks (Rupees Sixty Lacks). For this purpose a registered Trust in the name of Arulmighu Avanashi Eswarer was formed consisting of 18 religious minded people from all communities of this village.
