🚨 Still scoring below Band 6.5? You're probably making these 4 Speaking mistakes — and you don't even know it.
Most students think IELTS Speaking is about perfect English.
It's not.
The examiner is NOT testing your grammar alone.
They're judging your fluency, vocabulary range, coherence, and pronunciation.
Here are the 4 mistakes that keep students stuck at Band 5.5–6.0 👇
❌ Mistake 1 — Memorised answers
Examiners are trained to spot scripted responses. The moment you sound rehearsed, your score drops. Speak naturally, use connectors like "That's a great question because…" or "What comes to mind is…"
❌ Mistake 2 — Using filler words
"Umm", "basically", "you know" — these destroy your fluency score. Replace them with a pause + a strong opener like "Well, honestly…" or "From my experience…"
❌ Mistake 3 — Giving short answers
Part 2 and Part 3 need extended responses. Use the formula: Point → Reason → Example → Link back. Never give a 1-sentence answer when 4–5 sentences are expected.
❌ Mistake 4 — Repeating the same vocabulary
Using "good", "nice", "big" repeatedly signals a limited vocabulary range. Swap them for precise words: "beneficial", "remarkable", "substantial."
✅ Fix all 4 with personal coaching — where we practice EXACTLY what the examiner is looking for.
